hot take: growing up faster isn’t better. getting a job, moving out, being independent, etc. are all great achievements, but doing these things sooner does not make someone better.

I was just talking to my parents about this. They are willing to let me live at home rent free until I’m 25 (then rent) so that I can save up for a down payment on a house

I feel so insecure and compare myself to my friends often bc of stuff like. Thanks for this! ❤️

did i say these were bad things? or did i say life isn’t a race & you don’t win a prize for crossing an imaginary finish line first?

Yes, but we shouldn’t punish ourselves for not being able to accomplish those things as fast as someone else does or as fast as society expects us to.

Me when I intentionally miss the point of the post:

Damn guess I’m a loser bc I got covid complications and had to take a break from school and graduated “late”. 😂 Loser ideology is moping and lashing out bc you are not accomplishing things “fast enough”. We shouldn’t be so harsh on ourselves, and neither should you

nah i got the point. we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves but we should always be pushing ourselves to move forward in life and become functioning members of society. if you don’t do shit all day and don’t have a job then yeah you should have someone or something pushing you to get a job and do something.

… but nothing you said is in contradiction with my post? i never said “don’t move forward” i said we all move at different speeds. it’s not rocket science.

achieving those things means you’re doing better than someone who hasn’t achieved those things

that’s not my point. moving out at 18 does not make you a superior person to someone who moves out at 20. i think different timelines make sense for different people. that’s my hot take, and if you disagree, that’s fine, but stop repeatedly misinterpreting my post.
