And it’s not like people engaging with whatever IP or playing along, they’re somehow convinced that historical fiction actually happened? I’m not talking researched or well known examples but when people are like ‘yah and then she crashed out and screamed at her best friend because of [real documented thing]’ like IN WHAT TEXTUAL EVIDENCE? Why are you claiming this is real?

I’m just tired. I see people so eager to acknowledge the humanity of people before us and admire their lives, but all it seems we wanna do is pretend they have our lives in their times. There were interesting things for women in the 20’s!! Why does everything about it have to be suffragette joke this and that, and ‘great depression is coming’ humor like these people were complex and we reduce them all to single dimensions. Anyways if you read all this it’s 5am and miniminuteman made some videos on gobekli tele and karahan tepe that are not only NEW archaeological research but hope for more to learn, and I think he cries. We can engage with history without putting ourselves in its place

I love love love miniminuteman, and this post. I love seeing the similarities of basic human experiences, like seeing candid pictures of people doing silly human things, splashing each other at the beach, taking a stupid picture of their pets, but the point of that is that they ARE just like us in the way that they are complex humans, not just defined by the year they’re living in, but by their humanness, and the basic history fact jokes do force them into 2 dimensional personhood. So real
