as someone whose family immigrated from a communist/dictatorial country i promise it feels worse rn than it really is i’m not saying what’s happening isn’t bad, it is, but at least from my family’s perspective and their experiences in our homeland, it truly is oftentimes the media inflating the severity of certain situations. the things that happened in our homeland were much MUCH worse than what’s happening here esp in terms of censorship
people are resilient. look at history. time and time again, even in this country, the people have fought and won. when i feel hopeless i look at all the activists and fighters that came before me and i remember that we are continuing their struggles and successes. it makes me hopeful. we’ve done it before, we can do it again
sometimes the media inflates the severity of certain situations for their own reasons (that is not to say that terrible things aren’t happening—they are—but there are times where context isn’t brought into the discussion or the wording of a discussion distorts the meaning of what is going on)
ofc💜 i promise it seems really bad rn but you just need to remember that we will get through these years just fine. take care of yourself first and if that means stepping away from social media or the news just to take a breather from what’s happening you really should. some people think being informed abt everything is good and to an extent they’re right but if it’s costing you your mental health it’s not worth it. sending sm love🫶🏼🫶🏼
