My hot take is that people who live in touristy areas should be less miserable
I love watching the tourists in my beach town get upset and bitch when it rains all weekend, go home

I live in a touristy area and don’t always love the traffic but the fact is the economy thrives on the tourism and it’s a privilege to live in an area that most people can only vacation to

I think it depends on the specific touristy area and the culture of the tourism, if that makes sense. In Louisville, I love regular tourists but despise Derby tourists because it’s rich assholes who litter, tip poorly, and drive drunk. I feel like miami in spring break would also be a place very valid for hating tourists (maybe even always, I went for Christmas n there were still a lot of tourist assholes)

And then also a major and complete exception for places where the locals are genuinely just being taken advantage of or having their culture disrespected. Hawaii comes to mind for culture disrespected and there’s plenty of places where huge corporations are the only ones making any money and they’re paying minimum wage for their workers which then potentially lowers everyone else’s wages bcos the employers can get away w it and still be competitive

Oh for sure! I just find in my area it’s typically just people coming down to the beach with their families and they get wildly disrespected by people who moved here like 2 years ago

BUT in general I agree. I think people are far too territorial in general and we should welcome newcomers. And heavy on what you said abt having the privilege to live somewhere where others literally take time off of work to be able to visit!!
