“The Sydney Sweeney jeans ad is just a coincidence, yall are too woke” i need people to understand that commercials like that go thru loads of approval, boards, managers, etc… they knew the backlash and still chose that message. There is no mistakes

or tbf they might’ve not thought the immediate jump for using a common phrase of genes/jeans for a popular modern actress who’s looks are constantly talked abt would be seen as straight up white supremacy, eugenics, and nazism. im sure they considered the thought of there being controversy based on like societal beauty standards maybe, which may include her whiteness sure, but not straight up like these sinister beliefs and systems idk haha.

Agreed on the eugenics front but I’m curious what you think of this other part Someone on here claimed that her initials being SS and featuring a German shepherd were nazi symbols

Did you see Dunkin ad too? I guess they saw the jump in sales for American eagle and hopped on the “genetics” boat LOLL (the ad is so corny, it’s on their socials)

literally who cares. the ad is obviously about her being pretty and having nice boobs, not whatever political issue you happen to be irrationally upset about

sydney sweeney does have good genes and it’s okay to admit that. people of any race can

I’d never have clocked the dog bcos that’s lowkey a super obscure reference in my mind, which could have been an accident but based on the rest of the nonsense totally could’ve been intentional. Getting mad at somebody’s initials is batshit crazy tho 🙂‍↕️

I feel like you haven’t seen the worst ad, where she talks abt how genes are passed down from parents to offspring and then references her blue eyes Also, if they hadn’t intended it to be pro-eugenics, they would’ve redacted the campaign as soon as there was public outcry and issued an apology. They’d probably have donated to some charity too. The fact that they’re standing by it shows that it’s intentional

Like I mentioned above ^ the issue isn’t having good genes, it’s about specifically saying that blue eyes are good genes. If they’d released the rest of the ad campaign without that one, there would be no issue

It’s corny but most of their ads are corny lol, I think it’s def a reach to imply that it’s also pro-eugenics 😭 being tan certainly doesn’t have the same historical context in that area as having blue eyes

Aside from the eugenics reference the ad is a reference to an ad Brook Shields did when she was 15. A literal child being sexualized.

they never said that. they just had her say “my jeans are blue”

She’s saying that genes determine things like eye color and then says “my genes (jeans) are blue”. It’s very obviously about her eyes. There’s almost no denim in the shot when she says that line, actually.

But… some people have blue eyes… given to them by their parents….. and blue eyes are considered pretty, ig …. and blue eyes are not only a trait unique to yt ppl… I’m just confused, idk maybe I’m part of the population all those committees knew wouldn’t see what y’all are seeing. Was there any part that was specifically bigoted? (Genuinely asking bc I haven’t cared to look into it that far tbh)

In an alternate universe that hadn’t had the holocaust nor our current administration, there’d be nothing wrong w it. It’d still be fuckin weird bcos who gives a fuck abt her eyes this is supposed to be able denim 😭 BUT the focus being on the blue eyes of a blue-eyed, blonde white girl is referencing the most universally known naziism and it’s happening during a time when the country is being ran by proud eugenicists. So, in this life that we’re presently living, it’s a problem

When you say “specifically bigoted” I think you moreso mean “explicitly bigoted”. The ad itself if specifically bigoted but it’s implied bigotry. They don’t spell out their meaning or have a swastika in the ad, but the intent and implications are no accident
