I’ll give you guys even more context. I had suggested we celebrate my birthday and his graduation together but he flat out declined. Until now, in which he basically asked my mom what I was doing and that he was up for celebrating together as long as he could put up the sign for a surprise proposal which means I wouldn’t even get a Happy Birthday sign at all…like is that really childish and selfish of me?

why couldn’t you also get a happy birthday sign? but also i think since it’s technically his party too he does have someee leeway on wanting to propose then. i think you should just celebrate everything separately

That’s the thing though, he never wanted to celebrate together until my mom told him she was thinking about renting a small event room (idk what they’re called). My parents called me selfish by saying I should feel honored to have my birthday to be known as the day he proposed but like why can’t he wait until later if that’s the case. Why not HIS birthday?

yeah i think that’s shitty esp since it’ll be like an anniversary for them when it’s also your birthday. i personally wouldn’t even like getting proposed to on someone else’s birthday i’d feel bad😭
