Metals such as lead (which the shein clothes tested positive for) are absorbed by the body. If the body absorbs an unhealthy amount it’ll lead to temporary to long term problems which include debilitating joint issues, emotional problems (mood disorders), and reproductive harm to name a few.

there are other ways you can get clothes babygirl, it doesn’t have to be through an unregulated Chinese sweatshop app. American companies will likely have chemical traces, but at such a low level that the risk is minimal and compliant with regulations. Chinese companies dont inherently stick to those regulations (for glaringly obvious reasons) which is why people are very vocal against purchasing from Shein (along with the low prices that scream unpaid child labor and wasteful overconsumption).

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #25 54w

I mean yes but it’s significantly less likely because the fact is that SHEIN interacts differently with US regulatory structures bc it’s shipped directly from China, unlike the other companies you mentioned. Of course they’re evil too but there are levels to things and there’s nothing wrong with saying dropping SHEIN is harm reduction. It’s really odd that you’re going to bat so hard for a giant company that uses Uyghur concentration camp labor.

I’m pretty sure the majority of us are pretty aware of outlying circumstances where you’ve exhausted all possible places to look. This post calls out the craze, ie the pointless overconsumption, the need to follow the newest trend, the wardrobe overhaul. A lot of that is done mindlessly. If you *genuinely* struggle with finding clothing in your size and shein is your *only* option just shop mindfully. And be careful with what you wear too, given the findings of lead on their products.
