Everyone told me getting a degree would put me ahead in life... I'm about 7 months post grad and it gets you absolutely nowhere. Fuck this fucked up system
Can confirm. Literally has not helped me get a job at all and the university I went to has been no help either. But they still love calling me asking for donations

What’s the degree

Anonymous#17w
That money would be a lot more useful than the degree rn

Anonymous#17w
Yesss like 50k in debt and 4 years down the drain... not even including all the money I forked out for books, parking passes, etc

Istg it’s just either I’m overqualified and they’re gonna hire someone without a degree or I’m under qualified and they’re gonna hire someone for the “entry level” role with years of experience bc there are so many ppl applying for everything ofc I don’t have a chance 😭

Anonymous#17w
Exactlyyyyyy. I have a social science degree and either places are willing to hire me at 16-18 an hour OR i don't even get a call back bc I don't have 6 years of experience already

And I tell my parents and they said I should be "grateful" I'm getting hired but that barely covers my bills while my dad didn't even graduate high school and he's making triple digits

Yes it’s literally what I was making during college doing retail but now retail doesn’t even want me if they know I have a degree 😭

Exactlyyyyyy and Sallie mae is calling me daily like "where's our money" and it's like idk bitch if I had it I'd pay it

AnonymousOP7w
I mean you are doing better than me. I was hired as a server while constantly applying for other things and got laid off for that bc the restaurant wasn’t busy so now I’m unemployed
1
Anonymous#17w
Oh and my parents charge me rent and think I don’t have a job bc I’m lying about how much I’m applying and being lazy.

Depending on your degree and where you're located, I could send you where I got hired on. They started me at part time but once I hit full time it'll be 40k.... literally the only place that has been willing to hire me

I’m in the Midwest and basically studied media communications. It was kinda a big mix of communication, media, pr, and graphic design work

Ah dang yeah we're only in the south and east. I really do hope you find something soon! I feel like our generation is so good at that kind of stuff so it sucks the experience thing even exists
2
AnonymousOP7w
Like you can work for a company for 10 years and suck at your job. At least we're water to work
2
Anonymous#27w
Oh they would be hearing a unique string of curse words if they did that to me

Sociology... so theoretically I can work in business, HR, social work, etc

Anonymous#37w
I do counseling with kids rn but the pay is shit and they won't even make me full time for a while but it's all I can get

AnonymousOP7w
Omggg I also have a sociology degree, graduated in December, and have no job. Shits tough out here. They should’ve said “getting a degree will put you ahead, but only if it’s in like business, finance, marketing, or possibly communications. Otherwise don’t bother”

Yepppp like i picked a degree i was passionate about and it bit me in the ass. Hopefully within the next 1-2 months I'll be making 40k and breaking even on all my bills 😭

What kind of job are you looking for? I wanted to do something with children and maybe DCS/foster care but they all pay shit and DCS never gets back to me

I had one call a few months ago and I was like “I don’t even have a job to pay off my student loans I got from going to your school let alone extra money to give you”
