i’m atheist and i expect religious people to respect me like i respect them as long as they aren’t forcing their religion and beliefs on to me. if they do/say anything as an excuse to be hateful they are also cut off.

Don’t I know exactly what you mean. The amount of times I’ve been harassed for being Jewish and daring to ask questions about different religions (usually Christianity) is ridiculous. I respect your religion and who you are. Don’t try and change who I am or call me a sinner. Sorry you’ve dealt with this crap OP, it’s never fun.

Girl I agree. It’s actually so hypocritical. People get so weird about my religion because of how people have done evil things in its name, when that’s a human error not necessarily what I believe.

It’s so crazy too that sometimes the atheists are even meaner or more rude than the christians they despise. like, not every christian is out to get you, so you shouldn’t be out to get everyone christian! and i say this as an atheist myself

I’ve always been very open about my religion, even when I was younger. I’ve had people call me a Jesus freak because I pray and tell people that my life will go however god wants it too. The struggle is real but honestly the weeds pull themselves out of my life at that point.

100%! I understand people will believe in what they want and just because beliefs don’t align doesn’t mean I should show that person any less respect than someone whose beliefs do align with me. Everyone’s human and different and that’s perfect, if we all followed and believed in the same things honestly the entire world would be a bit odd lol. It’s also really cool to learn about others religions and beliefs imo!

Exactly! I’m queer as well and I got so much horrible hate when I was outed. Not just from Christian’s but from everyone around me (besides my parents). Being queer and Jewish is hard. I don’t know how many times I’ve been baited into having an open conversation about religion only to hear “you killed the messiah” or even “The Nazi’s were right, you guys are evil”. I give everyone who respects me respect back but people don’t even do their due diligence to learn what holidays I celebrate!

As I’ve mentioned before, harmful words kills. And there are so many people who don’t know that or don’t seem to accept that. There’s a reason all temples in my area have security guards and cameras. These are the things I want more than anything to educate about but people will ruin it for all of us.

THIS. *some* of them will get you into a conversation and hear you out only to turn around and act like you’re the devil spawn. it’s pure manipulation and they do it so they somehow feel morally superior even though your sexuality has nothing to do with your morals to begin with.

Anonymous replying to -> #4 17w

Exactly! I even had a post I made two days ago about being open to asking about Judaism. Guess what the first question was? “Why did you kill the Messiah” I eventually blocked the guy it was so bad because he wouldn’t listen to me about how that was harmful rhetoric. Just like there are pro-choice Christian’s there are pro-choice Jews and Atheists and Muslims and what have you. It’s ridiculous to assume because one person shares the same religion they share the same moral values.

I think theres so much hate because our government is trying to make shitty laws based off Christianity, and people try to use Christianity as a reason to be awful. There definitely are terrible people regardless or what they believe, but i think people are extra sensitive to it right now because it feels like a big group of people want to force their beliefs onto others
