But they're still affected by women's issues bc of the body they were born in

it’s nuanced. i think on one hand they relate to sexism because it’s an experience they’ve likely had as someone afab. on the other hand, they’re now men, so why do they WANT to be here?

the irony is on the flip side trans women often also aren't welcomed here

they’re still affected by women’s issues and they aren’t welcome or safe in “men’s spaces,” so I’m not totally disagreeing but where would they go?

On the opposite side of the spectrum, trans women need a safe space here too.

hot take but it’s bioessentialist to include trans men in women’s spaces because they were born with female anatomy, just like how it’s bioessentialist to exclude trans women because they were born with male anatomy

i think it's bioessentialist to presume that all women's issues apply to all trans men but there's a lot of overlap and theres the reality of (most) having female anatomy and being treated as women in many cases despite being men

They don’t have to anounce themselves as a trans man on the men-focused chats? They can use the communities for their interests whatever they may be. I’m on NFL and Pop Culture for example. If they want to talk about trans-specific experiences there are also welcoming communities for the LGBTQ+ that aren’t GirlTalk & might be better than GirlTalk. Finally, they could create their own community if they wanted a space specifically for trans men without cis men. There’s no lack of places to yap.

I’m hesitant to say “GirlTalk is a safe space for all marginalized community” for a couple of reasons. First, GirlTalk is for women (ALL women) and its about our experiences. Second, GirlTalk is not always the safest place to be.

It is not the responsibility of women to take them in just bc men suck

Why are people calling you transphobic for saying that trans men deserve to be seen as and treated like men and that trans women deserve to be seen as and treated like women becayse thats what they are😭

this is true, but if we open girl talk up to trans men, wouldn’t that then be also treating them as women? or at least saying their experience having female anatomy outweighs their identity as men?

I never feel comfortable mentioning I’m a trans woman because I either get randomly downvoted or I have some freak spouting talking points at me for existing 😭
