Well actually it’s a myth that it’s derived from that word, if you did research you’d know that. If you did research you’d know pussy is mixed slang derived from female anatomy and cats. It is done because the actual insult towards men is traditional femininity. They hated being compared to people they viewed as weak, fragile and passive. They primarily wanted to be seen as strong, brave, etc. essentially, traditionally masculine.
