biochemistry has everything to do with nutrition. from metabolism, digestion, absorption, transport, to utilization within various cells. also macronutrient metabolism was about half of my biochem 2 class because we almost extensively talked about glycolysis, beta oxidation, gluconeogenesis, proteolysis, urea cycle (protein), and the micronutrients like vitamins and minerals. there’s a lot of misinformation in the diet and fitness communities.
there’s an increasing number of these self proclaimed health experts that use buzzwords to scare the laypeople from otherwise harmless foods. notoriously seed oils, GMOs, and various chemicals. this fear can prevent people, especially poor people, from obtaining necessary nutrients. using the systematic IUPAC nomenclature, i can make any chemical sound scary. put simply, everything is a chemical, and the dose makes the poison. our secretary of health believes in pseudoscience.
Solid knowledge of nutrition =\= self-identifying as a nutrition expert. You definitely don’t need a degree to understand the basics of nutrition, but you do need to be willing to listen to actual experts and not confuse yourself for one. Like OP said, people hear GMO and seed oil and shit their pants bcos some influencer said it causes cancer when the influencer probably just got that from a different influencer trying to sell something in the first place
