Idk who I am, but I am def not my dads daughter. Bc every time I tell him “I’m thinking about taking some time off work” he just deadass goes “and do what?” Idk, relax?? NOT work?!?! Why are our parents so obsessed with working themselves to death

Like needing a break is a valid reason to want to leave 2 hours early on a Friday 😭 god forbid 🙏🏻 he was complaining the other day that his company stops accruing vacation hours once he hit 400 saved. Like dude, USE THEM?!?! What are you doing???

Bruh 400 hrs, dude can take like a whole month off. He can give those vacation hours to me if he wants, cause I will never be ashamed or feel guilty about taking a break I deserve.

Omg yes, I always feel guilty for calling out too. I usually do feel guilty for vacation time too, it makes me anxious bc I know there’s work I need to do that’s just sitting around. BUT I never understand the whole hoarding your hours for no reason. It’s paid time anyways!!!

Honestly he should ask about getting his vacation time paid out. I personally think it’s insane to refuse to take time off, but that’s his prerogative and PTO is part of your total compensation package. If he’s not taking the time off, they should be financially compensating him.

Like, 400 hours?? The man has effectively given the company TEN WEEKS of unpaid labor. More, actually, since he’s upset that the rest of his unused vacation time is falling to the wayside. I understand that our parents have the grindset instilled in them but part of the grind is demanding fair compensation. He wouldn’t take an unpaid internship and he shouldn’t accept this.

Oh for sure, def his choice, I just don’t get it. I think they’ll pay him out if he were to ever leave the company, but I think it’s also the companies way of trying to force employees to use the hours since he’s essentially losing time by not using them. It’s just annoying bc he expects me to have that same mindset and doesn’t realize how unrealistic that is. To me, working yourself to death ≠ hard work and being a good employee. You can be a hard worker and dedicated employee AND take PTO!

No I totally agree w you!! And tbh I think working yourself to death actually makes you a not good employee most of the time 🤭 I say this as someone actively struggling with it, but working yourself to the bone means that you only have bone left to offer. You may have been great while you were burning yourself out but you’re kinda useless once you’re fully burnt. Difference between a cigarette lighter and a candle

Yuppp, I’m learning about burnout the hard way 😭 not because anybody taught me about it, but bc I went into my first job with this “if I kill myself over this, people will value me more” mindset, and it’s def not true! If anything, my productivity is even worse bc of it. Def agree that you’re kind of useless once it sets in

One of my coworkers has like 650 hours of PTO saved up and he’s constantly flexing them, like dude it’s not a flex to never give yourself a break
