Having independent opinions per issue rather than agreeing with everything one party does/wants, and also basically compromise between the two. For example, i believe in the right to get an abortion for whatever reason, but I can accept laws blocking after 16-20 weeks (though 20 is better, sometimes u gotta work w what u got, compromise is better than nothing at all) and any laws that actually protect the mother’s health above all. I hope this makes sense. (1/2)
I feel like a HUGE problem we have is like shutting everything down bc we can’t come to an agreement but usually it’s bc the options are either red or blue and there’s just no attention to any other choice or any kind of compromise. It’s like the republicans only want 100% ban and liberals only want 100% freedom but we might actually make progress in a good direction if we compromise more. Both sides can come out the other side feeling they have made progress and maybe work TOGETHER more???
The issue is that’s just not what the people want anymore. A huge part of Republican politics and campaigning today, if not the majority, is no longer run on policy, it is run on hurting Democrats. It is a politics of revenge, when Trump was starting his campaign he used the slogan “I am your retribution.” The Democrats have primarily not functioned in this way, but increasingly portions of the Democratic base are wanting the party too as well. Politics is now much less about the actual issues
The Democrats have compromised: Obamacare wasn’t even a compromise position, it was a Republican healthcare plan passed in Massachusetts by then Gov. Romney, who’d go on to become the next Republican nominee, and yet not a single Republican in the House or the Senate voted for it, and this was not an isolated incident, because it wasn’t about the policy in the first place. You can’t compromise unless you have someone acting in good faith to compromise with, otherwise you’ll get used
I also can’t have this conversation in good faith with someone that claims ONLY republicans make blocking/hurting the other side’s campaign and not both sides. I’m a moderate because I believe we shouldn’t have parties at all. I was simply trying to answer your question and give an example. If the ENTIRE government cared more about compromising than blocking their “enemies” (there shouldn’t be enemies, we are all one American People) we would actually make progress. That’s my only point.
Basically what I’m trying to say is I really don’t give a shit about having an argument over this. You won’t change my opinion and it was never my intention to try to alter yours. You asked a question and as a centrist I gave my interpretation of the answer and why I am moderate over choosing a side. “Sides” shouldn’t exist. Responding to that immediately by docking one side when I just said I don’t pick sides🤣🤣like sorry, really I’m sorry, but I’m just not interested in this discussion.
