Also can I ask why being a man hater is something to perform? Genuine question. I’m a bit confused bc we live in a male-centered patriarchal world, life is easier if you don’t fight against patriarchy unfortunately. So why perform the fighting against patriarchy, but actually rock with it? What does one get out of faking a critique of “men” as a construct? People hate women that hate men, it’s a hard life to live, knowing and criticizing patriarchy.
“If the roles were reversed” isn’t a very sound argument. It shouldn’t be your whole personality of course. But when women hate on men, it’s punching up, when men hate on women, it’s punching down bc we live in a society that already hates women in every aspect of it. Man hating doesn’t make men oppressed. Men hating on women keeps the oppression women experience alive. “Misandry” (not a real form of oppression) doesn’t kill men. Misogyny kills women.
I think this is a little different but I understand your point. It’s a difficult thing to grasp sometimes but I try to describe it as; “men” aren’t real, and “women” aren’t real. The creation of gender- combined with a system of hierarchy creates the patriarchal world we see today. If I said “I hate men” I don’t mean people in my life I adore that happen to be a man, I mean the construct of men as a whole. Because if “men” are a group that exists in this world, they are the oppressors. So, to me
-“I hate men” = “I hate the patriarchal oppressors”. And when it comes to relationships this can get a little controversial in online spaces. But the whole “ladies, you don’t need a man, be alone instead” is mostly a great mindset to have. However, women still will desire men, and we don’t want to shame women for this desire. It’s all about making “men” a safe space for women. And this takes work. You would have to find a man that is secure and willing to learn.
I think this question is a little nuanced and intersectional, there can be multiple reasons why women might pretend to hate men, but in this scenario, my friend’s performance stems from wanting male-validation and also wanting to relate to the women around her, but too embarrassed to admit that she does like the validation from men. If that makes any sense at all. I think admitting that you want male validation is a lot harder for some women, which is why they might preform instead of reflecting
Ok I see. That’s so interesting that “hating men” has become a thing to perform to relate to women but I guess I can see it. I just remember being basically ostracized from a lot of people I was close with when I began to notice everyday patriarchal things and say them out loud (in like middle school). People would always say I’m being dramatic or ask if i “even loved my dad” 😭😭
I get what you’re saying because I think it’s almost like they want a boyfriend more than they want a relationship because having a boyfriend validates a women’s existence and value (unfortunately). And this is what insecure women could do (not all ofc). And if they have a sadness or insecurity within them of wanting to be validated it could manifest in this way
Also guys- unfortunately straight cis women do exist (I’m not one of them) but there will always be women desiring men we can’t shame them for doing this. Women want to be cared for a loved and seen and have a good man that understands the world around them and his role in the world as well as hers. Hating on men doesn’t mean specific men either- it means hating on the construct of men because the existence of “men” as we know it means women are oppressed. Sometimes I don’t think we think about-
Ok- I’m sorry I was being respectful but you are being very rude I’m sorry you have not been able to grasp the nuance of situations like these but don’t take it out on people that consider their places in society and how it connects to their personal relationships. We have to make men apart of the conversation. And it is quite misogynistic for you to shame women for wanting/finding healthy love.
I literally say I misread the post, and no I don’t “worship” my partner. Me and my partner have mutual respect for one another and love each other. I also wouldn’t tolerate, let alone date, a misogynist. I’m very strict on certain things (opinions on abortion, views on feminists, the way they treat women, etc) and wouldn’t compromise these ideals. I generally do not trust most men off the bat and hate the patriarchy and how so many men benefit from it, but I’m also not 5 and can acknowledge -
- that in every day life it’s much more case by case. I have amazing men in my life and I’ve had horrible men in my life. I’m a lot more confident in myself now though and generally don’t give men the time of day especially when they’re clearly pricks. I also routinely call out misogyny in my male friends because even the best meaning man can be influenced by misogyny in ways they don’t realize, because they’ve never really been forced to think about it.
OH STFU it’s always I HAAAAATE MEEEEN with you and you scratch beneath the surface and it’s just you and your bf who fucks you and you looove it and OFC you have soooo many other guys you were with too yeah save us the time - I dont believe ur “haaate” for men for a single second gfy
Additionally, my entire personality doesn’t revolve around the men in my life. I have much more female relationships and prioritize myself over any man, even those I love. I misread the post and thought this was saying anyone who wants a bf is a hypocrite which I feel has nuance, but then I realized I misread and pointed that out.
This is so true. I can be hard to give people grace but if you can manage to do so and they are fundamentally good people and WANT to be better and do good, the world is better for it. At the same time- sometimes I am just so tired of teaching men things 🥲 this is a valid feeling too I think and I like what you said as well.
Me and my partner don’t have sex, I’m queer and on the ace spectrum. Though my partner is a cis man, gender doesn’t matter to me in dating. I do hate the patriarchy and as a byproduct, many men. So many men actively benefit from it and are misogynistic and do not care to change. I’ve experienced it’s, my sister’s have experienced it, and my friends have experienced it. Men generally suck. I hate men the way you hate mondays. Usually they’re horrible, but that’s not to say there can’t be any -
