My hot take: people when they are having a baby wish too much on gender when it’s a 50/50 shot. And as someone who found out my mom was incredibly upset when she found out I was a girl it hurt ALOT

I can understand like going “I would prefer a girl.” But a lot of people only think “I WANT A GIRL.” And get incredibly upset.

I’m not really sure if it’s even a 50-50 shot, I think people are more predisposed to have boys versus girls and vice versa. But I’m not an expert so I don’t really know, this is just what I have noticed in specifically orthodox Jewish communities (since they have a lot of children)

can I ask the reason why you feel so hurt after finding out your parents preferred you were a boy? like is it the sentiment alone or have they treated you a way in your childhood?

My mom used to say “I prayed I would get pregnant with you.” But when I found out she actually wanted a boy those words felt meaningless.

Also I also think people who have like 10 kids trying to have a boy is also kinda effed a bit. Bc those girl subconsciously know they weren’t what their parents wanted and were essentially a “failed” shot. This goes for all boys and people wanting boys. Also dads who get upset their having a daughter is haunting as well

Oh to add. The ppl who are obsessed w the one gender they want to the point of buying only pink or blue stuff, paining the nursery that color, having a name picked out. Like no one is sitting them down and helping them from obsessing over it.

Some experiments have said it’s not entirely 50/50 but it’s still an unknown answer. Like you DONT know. Some ppl think they do or there’s wives tales, and sometimes they get it right. But not every guy felling is right

because my mom didn’t pray for ME she was praying for a son. She’s like “I wanted a friend because your father was offshore all the time.” But the friend she wanted wasn’t ME it was a boy

I weigh it differently bc she also favored my brother a bit more growing up, and my mom is one of those ppl where shes like a toddler if she doesn’t get what she wants
