I agree. It started off as "women can have casual sex too #feminism." But it pretty much became a competition to see if we can be as nonchalant and honestly dismissive and dehumanizing to our sexual partners as much as men are to us And if you ever had a problem or critique about that, then you're derided as being anti-feminist and a puritan. I thought we want to have healthy sexual relationships between everybody, and not just playing down to men's level
I only have 2 bodies and both were from long-term relationships and were both men who abused me so the concept of hookup culture sounds a little appealing to me right now since I’m tired of feeling emotionally invested in the person I’m having sex with bc they just hurt me in the end. But I can’t wrap my head around how unsafe hookup culture feels STD-wise, condoms only protect from some STDs not all of them
it’s fair to not want to partake in casual sex but as soon as you start slut shaming ur on the wrong side … it doesn’t need to devolve into the type of language that “landing in every guys lap” implies … it is normal to want to do it and normal to not want to do it … humans are animals and morals are relative and not inherent
i think there’s a difference between hookups and hookup culture. hookup culture feels very much more as pressure to sleep with everyone and you’re a prude if you don’t do so. to me, it’s not just a guy i like wanting hookups, it would be him shaming me for not wanting to do that as well, if that makes sense. it’s just the culture of it creates expectations rather than everyone has their own preference
