On a platform with a lot of young impressionable girls and women, I don’t think we should remain silent while people encourage this lifestyle. They should have know about the risks, not just the glamorized version being pushed for likes and money. And if they still want to pursue it, great, but at least they know what could go wrong
y’all have this imaginary idea of housewivery being stress-free & idk where u get it from—there’s nothing stress free about putting your life in the palm of someone else’s hand, being a household manager, emotional laborer, and child rearer. y’all disrespect women every day by acting like being a SAHM is “spoiled” and not a full time job.
it’s not a race? you don’t get a prize for getting married sooner? and we also don’t know if this will be for the rest of her life as they have been together approx. one year—it is an extremely new marriage. you know what relationship i’m jealous of? my parents. both of them contribute. both of them respect one another. both of them love their life together. and they met in their late 30s.
I am aware of that as I have found the person I consider to be my soulmate. But also, people don’t go into this kind of life style without the income to support it. It’s very doable to live off a single income in 2026 quite comfortably provided that income is good enough. And besides, someone can always go back to school to get a degree when they are older if they wish. Plenty of people do that.
People do go into that lifestyle without the income to support it all the time—living off credit cards, stuck with car payments, numerous other kinds of debts, and help from parents. And going back to school not only costs money, but time, time you don’t have when you’re thrown out on a random Wednesday in February & need a job to pay for the lifestyle you once led.
If YOU are not making money you are actively losing years of social security and other retirement benefits, you are leaving a years long gap on your resume, you are forgetting skills leading to a necessity for continued education, etc. You sacrifice immense economic power by not maintaining employment. No matter how you try to romanticize it.
