it just shows they never saw them as they’re kid but just a added responsibility instead. same goes for the parents who kick their kids out at 18 and expect them to just figure it out.

Some people do this but then give the money back to them when they move out. That is pretty cool but other than that situation I agree 💯

Depends. If you aren’t in school or doing anything else with your life for that matter, then yeah you should probably help out. You can’t live free off your parents forever. That will not give you any of the life skills you need to live independently.

no i don't like that either cuz what is the point? and most parents who do that don't tell their children yet so they put so much unnecessary stress on them. if my parents did that to me i would never talk to them again

Because it prepares them for what adult life is going to be like outside of the house. And besides, at least they get to keep the money

I agree. Basically I think a fair bottom line is you either work a full time job and pay rent or live rent free on the condition that you go to school instead and focus on your studies

^^^ this. I love my parents and I’m very privileged to have the upbringing I did but because of that I was also not at all prepared for how much it costs to live. Am I grateful that I didn’t have to pay rent, car insurance, etc. yes! but it would seem a lot less daunting as an adult if those things started to gradually compile instead of getting hit all at once yk?

Totally agree with you and #6. Like most things it’s not black and white, there is a fine line preparing for adulthood and taking advantage of

In the long term, yeah, but as soon as their kids turn 18? No. Imo the earliest that should kick in is around what would be the start of the next school year after graduating
