It technically wasn’t even a swap. The party that fought for slavery doesn’t really exist anymore. They were southern democrats. They were slowly replaced by Northern (liberal) democrats after the civil war. The Republican Party was created as a party to oppose slavery but as we can see it would go on to adopt conservative ideals similar to that of the southern Democrat. So it wasn’t 100% a swap. In conclusion the Democratic Party that exists today did not fight for slavery -a historian
Looking at it reminds me of when someone made a post in movies saying that the Princess and the Frog didn’t depict any of the period typical racism and segregation. When I pointed out the parts of the movie that depicted it he said there should have been more and listed lynching as an example of something that should’ve been shown. When I asked him if he seriously thought lynching should be depicted in a kids movie he deleted the whole post.
trump's admin is literally trying to force museums to stop portraying the realities of slavery. acting like the party switch isn't the most documented thing imaginable when you see someone flying a confederate flag and immediately know how they voted is the laziest form of ignorance you can get
I mean the parties started to switch in the 1930s bc of FDR and it wasn’t immediate either a lot of what he did was bc of the policies he put in place to keep the country functioning during wwii and after. It continued on for the next 30yrs when it was the civil rights movement it was the democrats that were pushing it. If we look at our description of democrat and republican and the presidents of the past you can obviously see how republicans would be modern day democrats and vice versa
