I wouldn’t go as far to say as upset but I prefer to just be called a woman. I can’t speak for others though

A lot of cis women use trans as an insult so they think cis is an insult as well

upvote 31 downvote

my guess is it’s a combination of transphobia and a resistance to change from how things “used to be”

This is just an idea but maybe everyone just wants to be a woman? Like trans women probably don’t want to be referred to as trans women because they want to be included, so maybe it’s the same the other way around? - a cis woman who is unbothered by being called cis

Transphobia and misogyny.

guys i tried to respond to ppl but it keeps saying comment isn't available sorry 💔 overall my comment asking what did i say wrong wasn't about being scared but asking for constructive criticism if i did say something wrong! im open to being told im wrong especially on strong topics like these bc it can be easy to say something insensitive without realizing it and thats not what i want to do at all

It’s not transphobia I love the community. I’m not interested in being relabeled. cis is a newly popular term. No one uses it except for the community. And unfortunately many trans use it to minimize natural born women

i'm specifically talking abt in contexts that we are talking about specific cis or trans women bc if im talking abt a cis or trans issue im gonna need to be able to refer to them differently in order to specific outside of specification we all should just be referred to as women 💗

i'm a cis woman and i use cis woman as well it's literally just a way to separate cis and trans women although it's unfortunate that trans ppl use it to minimize cis women it's not bad overall (in my personal opinion) when used for specifics

It’s hardly a new word at all, though. It’s a Latin prefix, just like trans. Also, “trans” is an adjective, not a plural noun. It’s not being used to “minimise” cis women.

Some of the earliest uses of it started in 1914, and then picked up in 1994. It’s really not all that new and it’s not a negative thing.

U asked a question. As the target audience I responded. And it’s also unfair that we are stuck with a term we don’t like. It’s not cool to off rip refer to us as cis without asking if we find it offensive. Most natural born women are more than respectful when referring to or figuring out someone’s pronouns or identity and preferred terminology. With us it’s “omg such a non issue” and we just get dismissed and told to deal with it hence all the thumbs downs

I don’t think u said anything wrong, 8 is just being weird??? Girl when ppl are referring to you as cis off the beat they aren’t trying to offend u, it’s bc they’re trying to highlight something tgirls face or highlight that difference

It’s like saying white girls or straight Girls like it’s just an adjective to make a point lmao

girl cis is an adjective the same way that any other descriptor is. i’m not going to be offended if someone calls me a white woman, bc i am. being called cis is not offensive, it’s just a method to differentiate our experiences from those of trans women when it is appropriate/necessary to do so. u don’t speak for all of us, i haven’t met anyone who actively dislikes the term.

The term you’re looking for is cis women, not “natural born”. Nobody is born a woman, they’re born a child. Everyone is “natural born”. Trans women and cis women are both women. “Trans/cis” are just adjectives used to describe variance among them, like any other adjective. It’s not negative.

because if i'm talking about cis women i cannot just say woman bc then trans women would get lumped into that considering they are just women too

Newly popular does not mean a new term that’s popular. Newly popular meaning an old term whose popularity has recently emerged. Pick up a book guys like come on

Dude it’s not ignoring anything. Why are u so comfortable calling someone a term (no matter whether u find it derogatory or not) that makes them uncomfortable? It’s bullying…

It’s not. You’re pretending to be offended over something that’s not a negative in any way, shape, or form.

upvote 11 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #2 6w

It’s not offensive to u. There are many descriptors that are offensive and this is one for me. I get where ppl are coming from but that doesn’t make it okay for someone to call me something that I don’t ID with or makes me uncomfortable.

There are other ways to get the answer you’re looking for and it’s actually quite odd to try to be so in depth in someone’s business to ask them if they’re trans or “cis”. It’s a lot more respectful to just ask “what do u identify as” ppl are more than their birth

It is okay. Nobody’s ever been harmed for saying “cisgender”. Maybe focus on actual issues instead of pretending cis people are the only ones who exist, yeah?

I think you’re the one who’s ignorant on this one. U don’t understand how/why it’s offensive or just don’t agree with it and that’s ok but it’s not okay to invalidate and be disrespectful. I don’t understand they/them but I don’t disrespect them by calling them her or him or saying it doesn’t make sense just because I don’t get it. It’s okay not to understand or to even disagree but still be respectful

Not ignorant on this at all. You’re the one pretending it’s something negative when it’s not. Being cis is not the default and it’s not a slur, it’s not offensive. You need to read a book and catch up. Do better, BE better.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 6w

But I am offended by it… I get that u don’t view it as negative but I do. Offensive is subjective and it’s not uniform. Some ppl don’t like to be called bytch others don’t mind it. It can be viewed as a slur most ppl don’t view it that way. For the ppl who dislike it do u tell them to just deal with it because it’s how u express yourself and mean no harm by it? Or do u apologize and stop calling them that?

You’re not oppressed for being cis. It’s not negative, and it’s not offensive. You just like to pretend you’re the default when you’re not. Again, educate yourself.

. There’s no such thing as a default. Oppressed is a strong word to use here. I’m not minimizing or dismissing anyone. U are. You’re projecting at this point. U are just a nasty troubled person. Seek therapy I hope u have the life u deserve

Seeing as I’m not the one pretending to be upset and offended over something that’s never been used to harm anyone and pretending like I have a better sense of decency when that’s simply false, that’s not on me. You’re welcome to seek therapy— you definitely need it.
