There can’t be freedom for all women until the most privileged (u & I!) stop propagating patriarchal norms while we say we hate men. I think many women who claim to want to abolish the patriarchy, don’t. Some don’t realize they j want a benevolent one.

Well that’s to say is a benevolent patriarchal society achievable, what would it even look like? How would we get there? Is it only perfect on paper? The same questions for a feminist society, change will be slow. And all of what ppl do is getting the ball rolling just a tiny bit in the US right now. Unfortunately we will never know what it will be like, who will be on top, what issues we’ll face, etc until we actually get there. A lot of us want a beneficial outcome but at what cost

I know this in my heart and I'm very much a feminist but it's hard to be perfect all the time and the words "I hate men" feel like they express exactly how I, a girl in today's age, am feeling after the way I am treated by boys in my generation. It's just a phrase all other girls like me understand, and it can connect you to a complete stranger who says "same" because you know you both share the same suffering. Still, I try not to.

I’m not advocating for a benevolent patriarchy!! Abolish it! But many women in my gen are, & often without realizing it. A lot of self-proclaimed feminists today are more interested in a political system where men hold the reins but only use that power to enforce patriarchal norms that “benefit” women, than in actually equalizing men and women. They haven’t actually considered what a world w/o patriarchy means and how revolutionary that has to be. Also,

I wish more women knew that even a “benevolent” patriarchy could never truly benefit us. Our cycles don’t control us, even when bioessentialsm rebrands as spiritual, not misogynistic. The same patriarchy that normalizes our bfs paying for lunch instead of split checks, denies women in over 75 other countries basic property & economic rights. The TikTok trend of girls taking comfort in “finally turning my brain off bc I’m with my bf” is insidious; demeaning men you don’t like by calling them gay

is also rooted in the patriarchy, and a true abolition of the patriarchy would also mean things like conscripting women in mandatory drafts. Many women would rather live with the status quo than see these norms shattered— bc let’s face it, especially for women in the West and w other intersectional privileges, that might be cushier. But for society overall, it is not. The prob isn’t valuing chivalry for ex; it’s valuing it > real change, and then purporting to want real change anyway. U get me?

I’M not arguing for a benevolent patriarchy; im pointing out how so may of the women who claim to want it abolished are. Ur right, this is partially a problem bc such a thing cannot exist. It’s also a problem bc to these women, the feminist utopia is a world where men wield their power to assist and protect women instead of rape and oppress us. Most don’t recognize this as still a world of men in power, and those that do recognize it don’t see why it’s wrong if it’s benevolent for their purposes

My post was meant to point out the PROBLEM w women who argue for a merely benevolent patriarchy. For them, a feminist “utopia” = just a world where men wield their power to assist and protect women instead of rape and oppress us. Most of these women don't recognize that this world would still place men in power, and those that do, don’t see why it matters if they think they’d benefit from it.
