i also don’t think that the justice system is meant to punish—it’s meant to rehabilitate or at least attempt to rehabilitate, no matter how heinous the crime. it’s not up to the state to decide when someone’s life is worth preserving

No right now I’m not even talking about the state. I actually don’t know how to explain what I mean. Wait no I do ok so my anger is being propelled by a show cuz this guy is judging this woman for the fact that had he not stopped her she would have killed her father. However, her father molested and abused her for most of her life until she was able to run away at that point he continued with her sister. okay but in our society the entity ultimately deciding whether someone deserves to die IS the state. either in doling out punishment for sexual assault or in prosecuting people who do exactly what you’re talking about and kill their abuser. i’m never going to fault someone who is being abused for responding with violence but that’s different than saying that rapists should receive death as punishment
