And this is coming from someone who's 25, works in an office setting, has a psych BA, and was considering a master's in mental health counseling. I was also told about high burnout rates, didn't see myself having the emotional capacity for clients AND myself, considered going into HR, discovered the atrocities of HR, and l've decided to stay away from that field... The way HR is designed is not something I could see myself working in long term. I'm a labor advocate not some company's bitch
My fear with mental health path is I’ll burn out helping others. My whole life I’ve dealt with others (dating wise and my family, specifically my crazy toxic mother), and I’m already so emotionally exhausted rn. Mental health counseling would take 2yrs to complete, plus me needing to take the GRE. I also never got any work/internship experience to look good for applications. MSM with HR concentration can be done in 1yr and online (little cheaper in comparison for my parents).
I want to make good money and I feel like with HR, it’ll be easier to finds jobs and work my way up within companies. I also think I would be able to get in this fall for a program to complete the MSM HR concentration. Which would help me escape my toxic family situation much sooner. I signed up for a info session next week to learn about the program since idk too much about HR yet, but an advisor suggested I go this way since his family members in mental health field bc of burnout
