her music was never anything special to me but the whole lolita shoot made me lose any respect i had for her

her music is not good enough for constant discourse imo

she is not a feminist in any way whatsoever and this shoot proved it lmao. and now everyone's mad

this is how i feel. like tbh the whole album cover thing i can kind of get behind bc it’s literally a woman doing what she wants and i actually do like her older music, but lolita reference is unexplainable.

Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

i can’t get behind the album cover tbh. i feel like if she were anything other than a thin blonde, conventionally attractive white woman, more people would be outraged and saying the album cover is gross and dehumanizing, but just bc she looks the way she does, that’s why people are like “it’s satire” or “it’s feminism” etc

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

idk i feel like critiquing what she chooses to do w her cover and people being like “it’s setting women back 50 years” is so unnecessary like it’s never that deep. and ive seen more outrage than people defending it. i feel like calling it gross and dehumanizing when all she’s doing is having her hair lightly grabbed perpetuates purity culture. like why can’t a woman do what she wants? idk if it’s feminism but i feel like people being SO against it shows that we still want women to

conform to our standards and the second they cross a line we don’t like they’re a slut and setting us back

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

anyway it’s not that serious and there’s sm other actual important things to worry about and i wish ppl would stop talking abt it literally everywhere. do agree w lolita thing tho omg.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

i agree that the “slut” and “setting women back” comment is unnecessary but at the end of the day, it really is that serious bc it’s always “let women do what they want” until it’s a woc

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

i mean my argument is that people are hating on her album cover too much, i haven’t seen a lot of people defending her. i do agree that she’s privileged enough to be able to do this and that there would be a way bigger target on her back if she was a woc. but that is a whole other issue in it of itself. i’m literally a woc unfortunately it is what it is.

Anonymous replying to -> #2 13w

listen to her stuff that isn’t popular. i think she has a voice but it got lost. either way i do agree though like it does not need this much attention it’s literally all i see discussed. it’s almost like people wanna turn a blind eye to real life events and problems and hone in on where they can place their anger and blame?

bruh ain’t no way yall fr mad at that the photo shoot lying in the grass with a sprinkler is so normal why in the world would sabrina think to research just in case something so innocuous could be referencing a pedophile movie 😭

yall are coping so hard lmfao there’s no way you genuinely believe think she didn’t know what she was doing

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

she grew up in this industry. there’s an incredibly slim chance she isn’t knowledgeable about what that photoshoot was. even so, someone on her team or in charge of the photoshoot definitely knew. i’m not really “mad” bc i don’t idolize her so idc enough to be, like this is just discussion, but it’s definitely wrong because there’s way too many parallels (similar WET dress, leg in the air pose, sprinkler, etc) and it’s essentially glorifying a movie about a pedophile, in your words.

but also none of those things are like niche yk? like exactly how well known is this movie by people in our age demographic

upvote 1 downvote

incredibly well known?? it’s not some underground movie that only a few people know about lol both the book and the movie are very well known

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

if anything growing up in the industry would be an indication that she had no idea because referencing a movie like that would OBVIOUSLY cause an uproar come on yall

it’s almost like that’s … the point???? it is causing an uproar

is she like paying you to say these things? i really don’t want to believe that you actually think this way

dude the album cover is an uproar that makes sense to be intentional. uproar about glorifying pedophilia? that makes no sense come awn

i used to like her but not anymore. i'm not debating with anyone but i lost respect after her latest album cover release. i'm sorry but that shit is gross

so well known that someone intending to do a photo shoot of a sprinkler in grass would immediately go like “oh wait this looks like one of the posters from the lolita film”? cuz i definitely think that’s a stretch

atp i’m just gonna assume you’re trolling bc there’s genuinely no way

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

no explain i’ve never even heard of this movie in my life why does everyone know it so well they immediately notice similarities from a scene in the movie that’s wild to me like has everyone seen this damn movie??

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

was it taught in schools or something 😭

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

it doesn’t matter if people have seen it or not - there are too many parallels, look at a side by side comparison. whether 2 people have seen it or a million, it is still a problematic movie with graphic and disturbing content that shouldn’t be referenced in a photoshoot. that’s like culturally appropriation and then your defense being “oh sorry i didn’t do my research”.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 13w

not even a debate, but what’s so provoking abt a woman liking her hair pulled? like if you’re putting your standards on her isn’t that not very feminist of you? where do we draw the line?

upvote 0 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

i told you i'm not debating lmao. also i can't tell what your point is now

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

it wasn't that it was the whole picture. like on her knees and stuff. it's just to me she thinks all of us are dumb because she claims her music is for the girls when it's very clearly for the male gaze and imho that's not true feminism

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

what exactly should she be researching tho?? “yo is this exact pose and set up actually a parallel to some fucked up movie i’m unaware of?”

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 13w

my point is like i feel like there’s a line between being like “oh she’s sexualizing herself for the male gaze!” vs “oh she’s sexually empowering bc she’s taking control of the narrative and choosing to be in that position” so ive always wondered where that line is drawn in general bc it’s different for everyone. at what point is it “for the male gaze” vs just trying to explore your sexuality. again not even a debate like i feel it’s so hard to decide so it’s more of an open ended question

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

if she doesn’t know the movie it’s not a reference it’s just a parallel/coincidence you know that right

and how do you know she doesn’t know the movie babes? did she tell you herself?

Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

ok i’ve never ever heard of this movie in my life are yall telling me you’ve all seen it and recognize the scenes in it well enough to associate that image with the below image. i’ve seen the parallel but i totally believe it can be a coincidence bc since when does everyone know this movie that well 😭

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

and THEN even if it is intentional she’s not even the one who’d be setting up the shoot the photographer would and i totally think it’d be crazy to think irs a no brainer that one would immediately think hm this is a scene from that 97 lolita pedophile movie

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

it’s not like it all of a sudden blew up? lolita is not at all an underground thing

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

this is an interesting take. but ok out of sheer curiosity how do you defend hg being like “i’m grown but i look like a niña/come out something big in my casita” or whatever she said

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

no no but it has to be so well known that she’d know this exact scene in order to reference it or to recognize her photographer referencing it and i genuinely dont understand why everyone is so certain she knew the the movie that well

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

doesn’t matter if she set it up or not what is wrong with you? even if it wasn’t her idea, she knew what it was referencing and went along with it anyway. also, 1997 is literally not that long ago. the movie isnt some ancient artifact that only history buffs know about

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> OP 13w

yeah that’s weird this is what i’m tellin yall im not even bein a crazy stan i just think the lolita thing is crazy to blame her for 😭

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

BECAUSE ITS A WELL KNOWN MOVIE. the fact that YOU have never heard of it doesn’t change that

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

for me it more so rubs me the wrong way. i think for everyone this coupled w her references to being small and kid-like just really make everything over the top in the worst way

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

again why are you so certain she knew what it was referencing. even if she heard of the movie AND even if she’s watched it do you think that means she would automatically think hm me layin in the grass has parallels to that one creepy old movie?

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

i feel like you’re avoiding my question because why do you think it’s THAT well known. my point isn’t that because i’ve never heard of it no one’s ever heard of it. my point is i’m doubtful that it’s SO well known that you’re certain she’d know it well enough to clock this

upvote 1 downvote

why can no one answer this question 🧍‍♀️

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #3 13w

why are you so confident it’s not? it’s not a reach for people who are familiar with the movie to feel uncomfortable regarding a photoshoot that sabrina did that represents almost identical imagery from a scene where a 14 year old child is being groomed by her step dad. i rest my case, please go really think about this.

upvote 1 downvote

it’s been answered so many times i literally can’t dumb it down more. both the book and movie are literally considered classics

i didn’t say i’m confident it’s not i’m sayin i don’t believe that at this point bc no one is giving me a reason to believe that and my person experience obviously isn’t any evidence helping yall case

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #1 13w

so people know the movie alr i don’t see the evidence that it’s SO well known for yall to be sure she should’ve clocked this. Like ive seen the great gatsby even w few times but i don’t know it well enough to clock a parallel image irl like oh this reminds me of a scene from great gatsby yk? i’m not saying it’s impossible she knew im sayin why is there no room for doubt?
