Big sisters that are forced to educate their brothers and attempt to correct some misogynistic tendencies early do not receive the flowers they desperately deserve. Maybe the most painful exercise in human history; I cannot imagine growing up with a brother. almost every man I’ve found even slightly tolerable owes it to an elder sister. the unpaid emotional labor indeed starts as soon as we exit the womb.

I am a big sister, I try to teach my brothers and even told them what i went through unfortunately. Lucky they are respectful, i hope that never changes. My boyfriend is the oldest and his brother who is 12 has made so many comments on women’s bodies. It has made me uncomfortable so many times, unfortunately it starts early.

i’ve also experienced sexism in my own family. Growing up I was always the one cleaning and cooking, my brother got to sit on his ass and play games. My mother even said that he wish he was the oldest. After I’ve tried my best to help her as a single mother. I would cook, clean and watch my siblings a lot. Just so she would be okay.

dear god, I am so sorry. It sounds like you’ve already made an impact on them, though. Thank you on behalf of us all. That so many parents buy into the subjugation of their daughters is disgusting and unconscionable. One day, your brothers will come to recognize the profound role you’ve played in making them better people. I can only hope that, when the day comes, they’ve the humility to let you know. And, yk, maybe make it up to you for the rest of their lives.
