I had a situation a while ago at work where it seemed like management was giving a male coworker more opportunities than me for no clear reason… and I’m switching to a different department now. should I say anything about it? If so what?

absolutely tell HR! you might open a can of worms for sure, and im just saying that so u can like mentally prepare yourself, but if you feel that way because of their actions that is 100% valid and should be reported! You might even open an opportunity for others who might feel that way in that department without knowing. I say, before ur meeting with HR or drafting an email, sit down and think of various situations that made u feel that way so u can have concrete examples ready to pull out

A single data point is tough to pinpoint as discrimination. You could flag it in case there’s a larger trend they can attach it to, but it’s entirely possible that he just asked for growth opportunities or something non-nefarious. Your best move is to ask for growth opportunities yourself and see how they respond. Keep him entirely separate from your request.

I think you should always be very cautious about going to HR because their job is to do what is in the best interests of the company, not what is in your best interest. I’d ask for more growth opportunities and ask if you’re being considered for certain positions in writing and if they say no, ask how you can improve and close the gap

I don’t know if I want to deal with that and it’s not 100% black and white it looks really bad though and it made me… not like my job anymore and not want to continue.

and if ur feeling weird about telling HR cause ur not 100% sure and other things like that, what would help me is to think about all the other bs that ppl report to HR, shit like at my friend's job her coworker reported her for coming in "late" even though she had the ok from her manager so 🤷‍♀️

He quit the job before he even started the new position he was promoted to 💀 I don’t think he was asking for more growth opportunities
