So my OBGYN is recommending a progestin IUD because the pill and depo didn't work. I'm scared to decide. Any advice??

I actually really like the Mirena! Lasts eight years, no copper, stopped my heavy flow period about a year in

What negative side effects did you have with your pill and Depo? And what pill were you on?

Have they said anything about the ring?

I have fibrosis and have a constant period without birth control. My doctors theorized that the depo contributed to the rapid growth of the mass I had. The pill was to stop my bleeding because I became extremely anemic after a year and a half of constant bleeding. I'm 6 months onto the pill and it no longer stops the bleeding so she's suggesting the IUD as my laps indicate that I'm anemic again.

Do you still get a regular cycle on IUD or does it completely stop?

Hmmm I don’t know a lot about fibrosis, so I did a quick dive to read up in relation to birth control. So, this is more of a “things to ask your doctor” comment than an “advice from a friend” comment. Have they discussed any reason for avoiding estrogen or clot risks with you? It seems that some types of fibrosis can disqualify you from estrogen use. Has tranexamic acid been offered? What pill are you using?

I have asked my doctor questions this post was moreso for people who have had/has an IUD and their experience with it. I've gone through countless procedures and different plans/labs/medicines with my doctors and fibroids run in my family so I know the options and some, like tranexamic acid, can't be used due to other health conditions and meds that I am on.

It had come up but I didnt like how it would have to be inserted and how often it needed to be changed.

Some people love them, some people hate them. Your side effects can really only be predicted by the side effects you’ve personally experienced with other birth controls, specifically other progestins and dosages, by comparing the common side effects you experienced on your past methods to your potential methods and their most common side effects. I don’t ask these questions to be invasive, but to apply your experiences to the existing data and give you a reasonable expectation and alternatives.

But then again, I have heavy heavy bleeding when off BC; I believe most ppl stop having a period on it
