My straightener smells like rocks. How do I make that smell go away? What causes that smell?

I heard online before that white vinegar and equal part water should help? Or rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth and gently wiping the plates. Then a q tip for the hard to reach areas.

Its a bad iron smell. I have washed it before but the smell just stuck

it makes my hair smell weird. I had the same exact problem with my old straightener too so I wondered if other people were having the same issue.
