I’m torn between keeping my last name because it’s part of my identity (also because I’m mexican and it’s customary for women to keep their names) and changing it because my fiancé’s last name is so much cooler 😭

on the flip side of this, i’ve had more ppl get offended or pissed off in my mans honor. like we won’t be taking my bfs name when we get married, we’ll probs take mine. apparently that’s the worst news ever to 90% of men who don’t know us nor have any impact on our lives. like holy shit didn’t think you’d care that much, it is not Your last name nor your marriage!

Fr like I don’t wanna change my last name because my dad died when I was in high school and he was VERY proud of our last name and it was a huge part of his identity. I want to keep my last name both to honor my dad and also to forever remind myself that I am still his daughter and he is always a part of me. Idgaf about respecting another family, I gotta honor my own family and it would be a huge red flag if my partner can’t respect that

It’s actually still baffles me that’s even a thing— I come from a different culture so basically every woman in my family is expected to keep her last name and not change it. That’s ridiculous.

Also, children should get the woman’s last name. She did all the work to create the baby with her own damn body!

My last name is on a fast track to basically dying if I change my last name. I am the only child and the only grandchild. I have a large extended family but many have passed away or got married. So I’d want to be supported if I made the choice to keep my last name

I have always had the want to keep my last name. It’s who I am and I’m not changing it for anyone. I’m a bisexual woman and I don’t need my partner to take my last name because they are also their own person. A weird custom all around imo. I also don’t know why it makes things so difficult with children because that’s the reasoning a lot of older people try to convince me with (don’t want kids anyways)
