i’m not a fanfic reader but i am on tumblr, and watching ao3 users get pissed at the influx of wattpad users who don’t know how to use ao3 feels like getting hit by the backblast of an rpg

From what I’ve seen it’s not the Wattpad users not knowing how AO3 works, it’s how they’re refusing to learn. Getting upset at eating the dead dove, harassing authors to update, complaining about filters, and wanting an app despite everyone telling them that would destroy the concept of an archive. It’s just another step in the decline of fanfiction etiquette

i agree with everybody except the last point. because AO3 isn’t going to budge. censorship and the corporatization of fanfic a lead to point where you either have to adapt to AO3s anti censorship culture or give up on fanfic. i think it’s going to be a rough adjustment period but ultimately it’s not like AO3 is gonna cave to these idiots demands, they’ll just have to learn the hard way.

Apparently they’ve been trying to report fics for stuff like incest (which like it or not AO3 was founded on) or clearly tagged dark themes but lucky for the rest of the website fics don’t get taken down unless it’s obviously plagiarized or something equally as egregious
