is it ridiculous of me to request that my parents not say the n word even if they’re just repeating what someone else said. i just think it’s just as easy to say “n word” as it is to say the actual word like what’s the reason you would say it

As a black person you are correct to say that🙏🏽 Like just as a rule of thumb don’t say slurs that don’t apply to you (and it might be better to avoid them altogether tbh)

they just got super pissed at me acting like i freaked out for no reason. the word was said THREE times after i clearly expressed that it made me uncomfortable to hear my parents saying it. three times is crazy. once? fine. maybe they didn’t know. twice? i’m very clearly mad. and they say it a third time?? they say that i have no ability to grasp context and that it doesn’t matter because they weren’t calling anybody that. i’m just trying to explain to them that generally the context does not—

matter in today’s world. today it is very bizarre are shocking for younger people to hear slurs said by anyone other than the affected group. i guess they just didn’t know that but to me it felt like common knowledge and i guess i got a little more mad than i should’ve because to them that was not always the rule i guess. but i was just very flabbergasted like the context doesn’t really matter anymore
