being weird was only ever celebrated at low, “socially acceptable” levels and only by people hot enough that being a little weird was considered to add character or they were just hot enough for people not to care. sadly if you’re past a certain level of weird and/or not conventionally attractive, you’re not really going to be accepted on a general public level. like hot or average girl likes anime = fine. ugly girl likes putting on fur suit and saying meow in random conversations = shunned
