Insurance is actually the worst I went to urgent care for a uti and my copay with 85 fucking dollars😭 even the receptionist was shocked she told me it was the highest copay she’s seen for my insurance

Are you on your parents’ or your own? You might be able to set up a Health Savings Account if it’s a high deductible insurance plan. Not **much** better, but it’s triple tax advantaged so it’s kinda like a 25% off coupon

Same, but for a different reason. I was on my dad’s insurance until he had to stop working so I use the health insurance offered by my college and they denied me for the same seizure medication I’ve been on for YEARS. Idk if they understand that seizure meds can’t just abruptly be stopped and switched 😭

I use my personal credit card to pay for stuff to get my cashback points and then reimburse myself from the HSA. It still sucks and we need to burn the system down and whatnot ofc but in the interim it might help out

I’m on my parents still which is why it’s supposed to be really good insurance, my mom has a good job

High deductible insurances can still be really good insurances because they can cover a lot of stuff once the deductible is met. I have a $5k annual deductible that I have to meet before anything kicks in (except preventative is always covered, like Pap smear and stuff). But after the deductible it covers 100% of the vast majority of things, even IVF and stuff

my mom has incredibly good insurance and a well paying job and sometimes they still want to make us pay for shit we shouldn’t have to pay for ngl

YES a lot of them are very stupid bcos, like, do they realize that potentially having to cover seizure-related hospitalization is going to be WAAAAAYYY more expensive than allowing a grace period for medication changes?? Obv less extreme than your case (I hope you’re doing okay!!) but I had an issue in hs where they wouldn’t approve my birth control a week early when I lost the pack. Bro giving me an extra week of pills is gonna be so much cheaper than prenatal care 💀

I also think insurance companies should be held at least partially responsible when it’s like “person with severe mental health disorder goes off their meds and commits crimes” and the backstory is that they were effectively managing their disorder with medication up until the goddamn insurance company decided to stop covering it

It’s just wild bc my copay is always 15-25 $ for urgent care
