It is wet food that he’s refusing. He’s always eaten pate. And yeah he has teeth issues, last year at the vet they mentioned he’s starting to get tooth resorption but it’d be a $3,000+ dental treatment and I couldn’t afford that. Just recently he’s been refusing all solid foods, even pate, and has only been eating churu and baby food. I recently tried putting his pate in the blender with some water and it makes a sort of churu consistency but he’ll only eat it off a spoon for some reason

Now I just feel so guilty I couldn’t afford the treatment and he’s in so much pain (i didn’t notice any pain at the time the vet mentioned resorption last year). I’m pretty sure the only treatment atp is tooth extraction but i’m scared for him to go under anesthesia at his age :(

so if you can’t afford the surgery, most vets might have payment plans or financing options. local shelters/rescues might be able to help you as well with discounted care. i know that spay/neuter is not the same thing but a lot of shelters can offer discounted S/N, just depends of if the have a vet on sight. there are also programs online for pet assistance. do not take out a loan either. teeth resorption can’t really be cured or soothed so surgery is unfortunately the best option

blending food is great, shredded or flaked wet food with gravy might also be good as well as that requires less chewing than pate, but if you’re “fine” with doing the current process to feed him, then that’s good too

And yeah i’ve tried flaked and shredded but he just licks the juice and leaves all the meat pieces. He refuses to eat anything firmer than a churu :( He eats the tiki cat silver mousse wet food fine because it has the churu consistency but it’s like $50 for 24 of them and he’d need like 3-4 of them per day to meet his calorie needs. So I’m thinking about doing the blender thing on my days off when i have more time to spoon feed him and then tiki cat on days i have work/am in a hurry

Probably will end up doing the surgery, he has an appointment next friday so i’ll see what his vet says. Want to make sure he’s safe to go under anesthesia given his age

for the tiki cat stuff, take advantage of sales at pet stores or try to find promo codes online. i hope you do know you are a great cat owner and you are doing your best, i hope you can get the surgery for him & everything goes great💓
