start buying the small stuff now!! when i plan on moving i plan on doing this, but also matching what i spend on the small stuff to my savings for bigger purchases (couch,bed,etc)

Tbh I started buying stuff for mine a year in advance, I always got stuff on sales. I got a lot of my stuff the Black Friday the year before I moved in

when I moved I put together a “bathroom bin” and it was the stuff you need to make your bathroom workable (tp, soap, towel) and highly recommend that. you don’t want to get to your place, realize you need to go, and not have tp ready

you can coordinate with them if you plan on sharing think cleaning supplies, dishes, some sort of cabinet/drawer organizers, laundry supplies, towels/washclothes, and even some decor (thats not super expensive) to make it more homey (like pictures/posters/fake plants, throw pillows etc)
