i seriously don’t understand why people are having vigils for charlie kirk like it does not make sense at all to me. it’s not just about how no one cared about melissa hortman anymore. there’s no reason to react this way for anyone.

Let’s see, he stood up for free speech in a time where a lot of people (specifically on the left but not exclusively) think that free speech should have limitations placed on it. He also encouraged discussions on subjects that society has deemed off limits, which is a weird concept to begin with, and specifically went against censorship laws that places like the UK have put in place and campaigned spoke out against them ever being put in place in the US.

There have been vigils for multiple people that have passed famous or not. people just mad at who it’s for which shouldn’t matter because a person DIED same beliefs or different beliefs it shouldn’t matter it was still a human being that lost his life.

Nobody should be able to be arrested because someone fount their online posts offensive. That’s a very dangerous idea but it’s becoming more common abroad (again, see the UK) He never incited violence against others like you’ll see from a lot of other political-adjacent people, and championed free, fair, and open discussions about political issues. I don’t agree with a lot of what he said, but those are all objectively good things.

he ran an informant network on professors and students at universities, so he wasn’t an advocate for freedom of speech broadly.

The kids being killed in Palestine and in school shootings don’t know you either.. it’s not abt whether yall knew each other or not. It’s abt the fact that a life was lost

true but this clearly isn’t about the loss of a life. if it was, everyone would be posting about Palestine rather than this one guy. everyone only cares about Kirk because of his politics, but you’re butthurt when people are honest about it. keep taking the moral high ground ig, but know that you don’t actually care about his life, just his rhetoric.
