Hot take: kpop gets overly hated for “stealing” black creations when in actuality they are inspired and if you are mad at kpop you need to hold that same exact energy with country music, American pop, rock, and alternative music. HEAVY on country though

a lot of the kpop groups and vast majority of the kpop industry blantantly steals from bacl culture, from music to even style. There's absolutely 0 reason I should EVER see a kpop artist with braids when they're not black at all. And if you think no one is trying to hold them and the rest of the music industry accountable for all the asshats that have stolen and appropriated black culture for fame, ur vastly mistaken and are not listening to the black community enough

Most don’t, which is the problem. Also a lot of the hatred on kpop is also rooted in overall Asian racism. I’ve see a lot of racist comments hiding behind this ‘problem’

yeah i think they misunderstand bc it’s not just the aspects of black culture in the content it’s that combined with the lack of respect for black people and their culture making it exploitation

You cannot tell me with your chest that country music respects black people and does not have a large history deep rooted in exploitation of black culture. Additionally, I’m not saying these things aren’t happening and that they aren’t a problem, you’re assuming. I’m saying you need to hold the entire music industry EVERYWHERE to the same exact standard because everyone turns a blind eye to the same exact shit in any other genre. There is a problem yes, but it’s not just in kpop.

And even with the problem, there are FAR to many racist comments towards Koreans coming from this, which gets us literally no where. Unacceptable to fight racism with racism

well yes all exploitation of black culture is bad and you did defend it by saying they’re not stealing anything it’s just taking inspiration so

it just sounds like ur trying to blame the racism the kpop industry is experiencing on the fact that they're stealing from black creators because YOU arent seeing ppl speaking out on how other areas of the music industry exploit and appropriate black culture on YOUR feed

if i were going to make OP’s argument for them i’d say criticizing k-pop for its appropriation of black culture while ignoring the same practices by white american artists is a sign of anti-asian racism especially when these people use their criticism to justify blatantly racist comments

What the hell? Did I once state “the racism in the kpop industry is because thy are stealing from black creators”? No. I said a lot of lash back in the discourse results in racism thrown. Dense dumbass

Mmkay I didn’t word it right. Many kpop bands take inspiration from many music genres, and they get over lashed and ‘cancelled’.I’m not saying there isn’t racist groups, or saying that there isn’t groups stealing.I’m saying for people to hate on the overall kpop community(aka every single song produced in Korea.is not justified as people are ignoring the same exact problems in other music genres. There’s bad most definitely, but the attacks they get are far out of hand in comparison to anyone else

I’m not talking about the obvious racist groups because, no shit doing black face, corn rows, stealing music and saying the n word are obviously bad and they should get hate. I’m discussing the fact that all kpop is disproportionately hated on in comparison. Like the amount of country music that is stolen, or racist is absurd, yet barely discussed. It’s cherry picking at its finest

Also it’s not the “vast majority” that steals from black culture. It’s the ones that are making headlines all the way to the US. You’re only looking at what you are told. Your news is biased based on American media. Common sense though

its not really cherry picking, u just didnt word ur post very well. And it is the bast majority, there are many groups outside of america who steal from black culture as a way to reach fame not only within the states but also outside of the states. Idk who told u its only the ones making headlines in america but ur very wrong about that

Babes that’s once again not what I said at all. I never said “they steal black culture to gain fame in the states” so let me once again break down why I said in baby terms. American media focus on certain things. American media not focus on boring non problematic groups because that brings in no viewers. American media focus on racist groups to get viewers. Majority of kpop groups don’t do shit, it’s just the lense you are seeing it through (once again, common sense)

No media company is going to report on a random kpop group that is doing its thing in Korea without anything “scandalous”. Like “click this article! This kpop group that no one in the US knows about is doing nothing!” Will get no views. It’s biased media. All media has a bias, you just clearly cannot see it
