They didn’t even lower the flags at half mast for her because they’re hypocrites

Because the media did almost zero reporting on it. What little reporting was done was almost immediately swept under the rug in favor of the next ā€œbigā€ story. Also I don’t think anyone was asinine enough to say she deserved it.

Tbf, maybe it’s because I live in MN but I heard a lot of talk from people on both sides and I’m in very rural MN.

I feel like the Hortman murders were grossly underreported, I genuinely didn’t hear about it until I saw a WeRateDogs post about it. I also think Charlie Kirk is being a bit over reported, partly because of the current administration but also because public figures, especially controversial ones, always bring in lots of viewers

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Anyone celebrating or dismissing Kirk is doing exactly the thing they are condemning regarding Rep. Hortman & her family. Learn to lead and not be a blind follower. Think independently and be open to listening to and learning from those with different opinions and viewpoints.

The difference is that she was killed in private and not in front of college students on a COLLEGE CAMPUS… scarring students and anyone else that was on campus. I don’t disagree that her death should have been respected more, but their murders cannot be compared

He was asinine enough to be a racist, homophobic, misogynist, Christian nationalist. No one deserves it but he put a target on his back with his bigotry.

Fun fact I learned in my religions class, in America the fastest growing faith is actually Islam, I believe Christianity is second. It’s so fast growing that if it doesn’t slow and goes this same projection for 10 years, roughly 1 in every 10 Americans will be Muslim. It will be more likely for gen z that their neighbor is Muslim than any other religion. Just some facts, god I love college

That’s a great fun fact! I’m all for facts. I’m just acknowledging that our country’s rooted in Christianity. It’s not a matter of everyone being Christian, it’s about respecting religions aka the first amendment…love that immigrants come to America, it just needs to be done legally. If illegal immigrants are rewarded, then what’s the incentive to have people legally try to come to the US?

This! Both deaths are terrible, but i’ve seen so many young adults who witnessed him being shot, talking about how traumatizing it was for them. And that’s horrible that she was killed in front of her daughter, neither of them deserved this!

That is very good to hear, man…But I absolutely think that it may well be because you’re from Minnesota. Sadly, there’s a pretty obvious discrepancy in the way the nation is reacting to each. I saw many leftist and liberal outlets cover her assassination, but definitely not at this level nationally.

The Constitution is not christian, nice try. The perpetrator is a well-known-to-be right-wing evangelical. Very firm in his book being used to revoke healthcare and spread queerphobic vitriol.

Nobody said I agreed with his words, in fact there was plenty I disagreed with. All I am saying is that people were upset that Hortmans murder was ignored or brushed off and that caused anger amongst plenty of people. Now, we are seeing a similar incident just with the affected party swapped and yet those same people who were upset by the prior incident are the same people praising or excusing this one. It’s not ā€œMAGA codedā€ to say that’s hypocritical.

Because I see little desire for purposeful discourse on your end, I will just say that I highly suggest you listen to Bernie Sander’s recent message regarding this situation and on political violence as a whole. I think EVERYONE should listen to his message. Then you can come back and tell me if I’m the one that’s missing the big picture in this conversation.

None of us are missing the big picture. We just refuse to mourn a bigot in the same way we morn a non-racist, non-homophobic, non-Christian nationalist. Point blank. Gun control for all.

He brushed that assassination off as a ā€œwaste of timeā€. He doesn’t care for kirk, either— he was just a puppet for the ideologies. Now that it’s out that the shooter is far-right, tRump’s moved RIGHT along.
