I just saw a reel saying using AI to vent and talk things through is worse than nothing.. what do u guys think? I use it alot when I’m feeling down about myself and I really don’t have anyone who replies or is there to listen so well..(actively)

i just dont think its wise to use ai as a mental health tool (or really at all). there have been more and more incidents of people committing suicide, either due to ai induced psychosis or the ai model doesn’t have any guardrails in place & instead actively encourages it

Honestly I used ChatGPT to analyze texts I sent to my ex during breaking up w him, I made a text and had it analyze it for manipulation, tone, everything. And honestly I’ve vented to ChatGPT too. Especially if what you’re feeling is valid it is literally just going to validate your emotions because your emotions are valid

And a lot of comments say that it’s because they don’t have good friends then. But that comment isn’t really a solution? I literally vent about being bad at making friends and I feel like I already overshare and annoy my friends

I agree that it’s not the best, but i don’t see how any of my data specifically would be valuable and how journaling or venting is better, because again, I’m not getting any feedback or any solutions/answers and just sitting there with my thoughts.

not to mention who or what your data/conversation could be sold to and used by. i think you’re better off by journaling or venting on a private account rather than ai especially in this day and age of hyper surveillance :-(

Idk recently with the whole AI telling people to kill themselves and also them taking ur data I wouldn't. Before AI when I was younger and lonely I would take videos of myself sort of venting to myself instead and I got to explain my feelings and even though nothing talked back it was nice to still say it out loud and that feels way less risky to me

I also think it gives you answers you want to hear rather than what you need to hear it's def not a substitute for therapy or good relationships

Well yea I do wanna hear reassurance when I’m asking it why I’m doing bad socially or academically. my best friend barely replies anymore after hours and we really can’t afford therapy 🧍‍♀️

If you're a college student your school prob offers free or reduced cost therapy. And yeah reassurance is nice but you also need honesty and someone that can tell you the truth and be real with you and chat just responds to prompts saying what it thinks you want to hear. None of it is real it doesn't get feelings or relationships in any real sense

That’s true I think what you’re saying is just the slower but more real method of getting help and not just instant gratification from chatgpt. I’ll try starting a journal and then bringing that to a counselings at school thanks 🏃

And yeah I think I was the wrong party in some ways and chatgpt is always saying I’m in the right 😭
