Literally any plastic surgery that isn’t for medical reasons (fixing a broken nose, those with scars/deformities etc) is regressive and anti feminist

Guys were going to need to be sensitive and do real research on a case by case basis with before and after photos that we can compare before we can go online and swipe left or right 🤦‍♂️

a lot of ppl argue that women should be allowed to do whatever they want (agree) and that plastic surgery is a form of self empowerment (disagree). like a LOT of ppl say it has nothing to do with self-confidence.

so hard to explain to ppl that yes u may wear makeup for you but also in a world without patriarchy and beauty standards would you still feel the need to wear makeup? and i don’t mean fun bold colors, i mean makeup that makes you “look better”. the answer is truly honestly probably no and i say this as someone who wears makeup

So basically what I mean is that we will always make choices in the context in which we live. Someone doesn’t just wake up and randomly decide they want to completely change their entire face. They made that decision based on current Eurocentric beauty standards, and how women’s value is tied to the male gaze. Women in this society are taught their value is how fuckable they are to men, and they want to change themselves to reflect this standard

You never see anyone making the choice to lipo fat from their butt into their stomach or to get a bigger nose and there’s a reason for this. The choice for plastic surgery isn’t one that women do for themselves as much as they claim that, they do it to appeal to beauty standards because women have been taught that is their only worth

Honestly if you think about it it’s super dystopian and fucked up how it’s a norm for women to undergo dangerous and costly procedures for the sole purpose of fueling men’s lust. Like do you know how dangerous a bbl is? It’s extremely risky and the recovery is awful

i seee, like everything has a reason and the reason is almost always catered to men. that’s so sad. and i was not aware that bbls are dangerous fr! ppl get them so often it seems like a casual common thing atp😭

Because it’s injecting fat, it has a chance of fat embolism happening, which is when fat enters the bloodstream. This happening can kill you, not to mention complications from infection or anesthesia. It was also found that lip filler doesn’t naturally “dissolve” on its own, it just migrates to other parts of your face and body. You’re putting forever chemicals into your body for what…? So men can have a boner? It’s so sad

It’s not event for men’s sake wirj the lip filler a lot of the time, there are certainly guys that care about that but I feel like a lot more women do than men

I will say that yes, women do it to appeal to beauty standards, that does not always mean they do it for men. A lot of people have internalized their self value as being tied to their beauty standards and especially in places like LA where it’s more common there’s a lot of peer pressure to Sometimes it’s like “I respect this person and I want to be more like her”

Who do you think set and controls the beauty standards? Again, people think they’re doing it “for themselves” but the choice didn’t exist in a vacuum. They’re doing it to feel more confident. Why do they think it’ll make them feel more confident? Because it conforms to the beauty standard. Who made the beauty standard? Men.

Yeah man, a whole bunch of women decided to get the exact same ultra feminized, Eurocentric tiktok influencer face and they came up with it all on their own because they just randomly decided that’s what they want. When are these women going to get big noses done? How about tattooing eye bags? I mean with how many comments I see saying how these women love ethnic noses they should be going out and getting surgeries to get these right? If they personally like it so much, why aren’t they making

Why aren’t they making *that* choice? How about getting veneers to get yellow and crooked fake teeth? You won’t, because almost every. Single. Modification. Is done to appeal to the male gaze

You don’t want to look like someone because you “respect” them, you think they’re attractive because you were conditioned to 😭

There is not any person who sets and controls beauty standards, they shirt over time And yeah, the choice doesn’t exist in a vaccine, a lot of people are doing it for themselves to feel more comfortable in the beauty standards they’ve bought into The beauty standards are shaped in significant part by what men like, they are not shaped exclusively by that, especially these days, I’ve found that men and women tend to have increasingly different beauty standards for how women should look

I mean that’s not at all what I said, women get plastic surgery to appeal to beauty standards, either for their comfort having internalized them and self judging by them or to attract admiration from others. What I was saying is those standards are not set exclusively by men, especially these days with social media, the beauty standards that trend with women aren’t always even liked by men (although they def have much more influence on our beauty standards than we have on theirs)

We live in white supremacist society, the Eurocentric stuff is not just about what men find attractive, it’s about white supremacist hegemony
