How did he do it? My dad gets drunk every single night and doesnโ€™t seem to think heโ€™s even doing anything wrong โ€ฆ

He doesnโ€™t even remember anything the next morning usually

If itโ€™s every single night, he will likely need to have medical supervision with withdrawal medications. Or else he risks deathโ€ฆ

He got pancreatitis and it really sunk in that it was killing him and my baby brother had just been born and my little sister was only 4 he realized he needed to be here for us

The problem is that I canโ€™t even get him to realize that thereโ€™s a problem

I think itโ€™s such an insane habitual thing for him atp that itโ€™s his normal

this might sound odd but maybe you could try to convince him to go to a community blood testing thing? many clinics do them once a month with walk ins. you could say you wanted somebody to do it with and for both of you to check up on your health without mentioning the alcoholโ€ฆ maybe that could help show him with results? But all in all, if you and your family has tried intervening and he wonโ€™t do anything, sometimes people just wonโ€™t let themselves be helped until they consciously know they

Iโ€™m sorry unfortunately the first step is admitting you have an addiction and you canโ€™t help someone who doesnโ€™t want to be helped. You have to keep reminding him that itโ€™s poison and that heโ€™s hurting himself and that you love him and want him around

Iโ€™ve been doing that since I was a kid even and it just starts huge arguments that I donโ€™t need to tell him what to do and that heโ€™s fine :( Little me going out to dinner would be like please donโ€™t get another beer all the time and it started hell. he doesnโ€™t take me seriously at all. Seriously I hate that man so much and love him at the same time.

Youโ€™re okay girl I hope that your dad is able to realize his addiction and get help. You deserve to have a father who is there for you not alcohol

You do realize alcoholism is a disease. Help but donโ€™t pass judgment.

I donโ€™t think sheโ€™s passing judgement. As the daughter of an addict (meth) yes addiction is a disease but it also gets to a point where they need to hold themself accountable and practice discipline, not cheap thrills. Addicts/alcoholics forever chase their first โ€œhighโ€ and will do ANYTHING and cut ties with ANYONE who gets in their way. I wouldnโ€™t say shes judging but moreso mourning the fact that her dad is literally killing himself and refuses to listen to anyone

Iโ€™m so sorry, girl. In Al-Anon/, they teach us the three Cs: You didnโ€™t cause it (their addiction), you canโ€™t cure it, and you canโ€™t control it. They need to have a realization that theyโ€™re ruining their lives and WANT to quit.

you canโ€™t really help but the other girlโ€™s comment about the three Cโ€™s was super helpful! my dad lost his wife, house, family, and almost business. the thing that finally made him quit was a DUI. this was like 3 weeks ago. none of the other things were his rock bottom but a DUI was ๐Ÿ˜
