
I saw someone call this the downfall of conversational generalization. Basically we should be able to make a general statement without having to list every caveat and exception to make our point. I also like calling this behavior bean souping or whataboutism because it also comes from some people ability to take everything personally whether it involves them or not.
I agree with that. Some people are either intentionally or unintentionally making conversations harder because they refuse to think outside of themselves. There’s been so many times I’ve felt hit by a comment then reminded myself it doesn’t apply to me so why do I feel hit? I think it could possibly do with how much conversation happens online now instead of face to face.
