That was his main appeal to a lot of people, not policy agreement, but rage and spite. That’s why, when he first launched his 2024 campaign he said as his pitch “I am your retribution,” because so many people felt—some justly some unjustly—so betrayed by the neoliberal social order of the last 40 years that they wanted someone who would burn it all down and make the people they blamed for fucking over this country mad But Trump isn’t an escape from the decline, he’s an accelerant of it

I literally saw a truck today that had stickers that said “I voted for trump what do you expect” “uneducated and still voted” and the last one was a police sticker 🙂

I wouldn’t say it’s “bad” per say, it’s pretty understandable, but I do think our politics is going to have to have sympathy for them, because even if you realize it’s hurting you, there’s no way out of a cult if you have nowhere to go and no one else to turn to

Yea, it’s not like I’m saying I’m glad they’re hurting or anything like that. Tho I am glad that they are starting to realize who they voted for. It’s just difficult to emphasize or sympathize with people that showed so much vitriol and hatred towards others. But I agree they have no where to go but back to the cult if they are met with the hate they showed for everyone else.

I still am not going to sympathize or empathize with people who voted under this mindset. But I would support measures that would help them bc they are human beings like everyone else. Like you wouldn’t deny care to someone with covid bc they’re an antivaxer, you’d help a human in need.
