there is a whole child trafficking and in general sexual exploitation trafficking moral panic and it’s exhausting. like you a suburban white woman are not going to be trafficked because someone left a water bottle on your car. the person picking your fruit or cleaning your house is way more vulnerable

YEARS ago people were saying that wayfair was trafficking children. It started in qanon communities which is why I don’t buy it at all. Plus there is literally no evidence

I mean, all of trafficking stereotypes and stories are all wrong. Kidnapping is extremely uncommon for human trafficking, most kidnapping is by family members and not about trafficking. Human trafficking is mainly grooming, blackmail, and drugging and can happen to anyone. There are assault/rape/robbing tactics like zip ties on cars, honey bottles, etc. but those are almost never for human trafficking and are very uncommon tactics for anything.

Now throw aways (runaways that no one looks for), undocumented people (especially indigenous women), homeless, etc. are people most vulnerable to human trafficking especially sex trafficking (reminder that labor trafficking is part of human trafficking, it’s not all sex and men & boys are large targets as well bc of it).

The main reason they are vulnerable isn’t because you can kidnap them easier, it’s because you have something they need. Shelter, food, transportation, money, etc. and can coerce them into doing things for you much easier than with someone independent. Kidnapping is much more work than grooming and blackmail.

I used to run my college’s organization of Network Against Human Trafficking, hence my info dump. It’s an extreme problem though in every single state.

Idk why I’m getting downvoted but again I totally agree with what you’re saying. People aren’t targeting your car in the Ross parking lot just bc you have girly things as decor. It’s giving “satanic panic” type shit. People aren’t getting snagged off the streets left and right to be sex trafficked. That’s not how it works. The and the amount of misinformation that is spread about sex trafficking is insane and totally unsafe

Oh absolutely. And it makes trying to pass any legislation to help the victims and their legal cases so so much harder.

Oh yeah for sure. I live in Orlando which is one of the sex trafficking capitals of the country. The amount of times I have heard “they are trying to sex traffic people at the [local target]” is insane. Like I promise you nobody is going to sex trafficked you at target Jessica
