People be like #BelieveWomen until it comes to Mary then it’s “she must be cheating and lying”. Yet people rarely accuse Moses of carving those tablets himself.

Part of #BelieveWomen is about changing how women’s stories get dismissed more than mens. Otherwise it would be #BelieveSurvivors. Its that aspect im connecting to

by stories what do you mean? because the stories in the movement are like pretty exclusively about violence towards women or facing oppression. besides, a lot of nonreligious people don’t believe mary gave birth to jesus not because they don’t believe a teenage girl, but because they don’t believe in god

The bible is full of doubtable stories. But hers is one of the most common to bring up or make fun of. To me it seems there is some subtle misogyny there

you could be right about that. i would say it could be a mix of misogyny and the fact that it’s basically the origin story of christianity and the most known one. i just don’t think “believe women” applies to the story of mary in that way
