just to be clear on this: they’re women but not female, correct? because woman is gender identity but female is the biological sex, which if they’re born male and transition to female, they’re only women by gender identity? i always never understood this, if anyone could explain (nicely) cause i’m genuinely curious!

yes babe it is. if you were a real biologist you would know there is no way to define a woman without excluding some women that you clearly deem as “real women.” trans women are women fullstop because sex and gender differ, and even sex gets way weirder than what we teach in high school and intro biology classes. which of course you would know as a biologist

this is my job i would love to! so the simplistic answer is yes, but when you start looking at sex on a deeper level, it’s a lot more complicated than just male and female. not only are some people intersex, but we also find that when trans people undergo hormone replacement therapies, they’re changing their markers for sex as well! this means that trans women can be considered women in both gender and in some cases sex. super interesting stuff!

their reproductive organs do change through surgery and hrt! they can change shape and look. although the science hasn’t yet been discovered to make their reproductive organs reproductively viable, but there are also plenty of cis women who can’t have child for various reasons. i am not trans so id rather not talk too much about trans peoples genitals since its really not my place, but what matters is that it’s not as simple as it first seems

now chromosomes i could talk about all day! basically the simple version is that they still have their chromosomes, but their hormone replacement therapies can alter their genes (which is what im studying). additionally it makes massive changes to their physical appearance. plus we can also talk about intersex people and how their genes are more complex than just xx or xy. sorry im rambling a bit now but im happy to answer questions lol

I don’t think saying “they are women by sex” is the right way to phrase it. How about they are becoming biologically female or something? Like woman is a gender identity. Your sex does not matter. You can’t have “woman sex” and saying that “female = woman sex” is kinda backwards if being in support of the trans community

Medical standards are just what they are, human made decisions. Peer review is flawed and disliked by the researchers that use them due to systemic bias and inconsistent feedback. When transsexualism is itself called a social construct by the very foundation, even the terminology was done in bad faith and exploitation (Ie John Money). Every MtF person I have ever met treats themselves as bimbos and sex objects, and this only seems to be the standard in a lot of media.
