I hate when people don’t respect audiobooks as books. I can’t just sit around all day I’m listening to multi-task because I got shit to do. Also it’s ableist, like are you gonna tell a blind person the way they read doesn’t count

For me idc how you consume the book as long as you can actually retain the information. The issue is when people say they read 50-100+ books when they were all audiobooks, generally just listening especially while multitasking will not hold the same long term retention and benefits that physically reading does. Physically reading is important for our brains, also there are many books in braille for those who are blind, which is also more beneficial than just listening.

idk i feel like there’s a difference between reading and focusing on a book vs listening while you multitask 😭 like if you were sitting down and JUST listening the way you’d have to sit down and JUST read that would be different

yes I was schooled by a booktok-er, apparently to consume by listening is apart of the definition of reading. but listening to information and reading it does light up the brain differently with reading forming deeper neural connections.

yeah that doesn’t really change my point tbh. there’s nothing wrong with listening to an audiobook but there is a difference between focusing entirely on what you’re reading/listening to and splitting that up between two tasks

Regardless I am consuming the book in one way or another. And I’m saying how someone consumes a book doesn’t matter

sure just like someone can serve you half cooked chicken and say regardless of the food they cooked for you. physically reading/listening doesn’t matter as long as equal focus is given to the task

bc how someone processes information matters?? i’ve said several times the difference between physically reading/listening DOES NOT MATTER as long as someone is giving equal focus to that task. if you want to listen to books while you drive that’s your choice but don’t equate that to sitting down and focusing 100% on a book by physically reading
