honestly one major reason as to why i’m not religious is because MOST religions are heavily anti-women/against women. most of their “teachings” are built on enforcing a strong patriarchy while women are constantly degraded at the bottom. no thank you.

people somehow always take the worst aspects from religion without taking any of the actual teachings. at this point religion has been pretty thoroughly ruined for me.

bring back the goddesses! i feel the same way about the abrahamic religions and that’s why i’m spiritual. i also know a few people who work with deities like Aphrodite or Hekate and have altars for them. as a woman, connecting with the divine feminine has given me more faith than main stream religion ever could. i will never worship a man. you should look into other forms of spirituality <3

If religion ever feels derogatory, it’s the person teaching you the religion not god. But, that’s my personal belief.

i’m catholic, and i completely understand your point. a lot of the translations of the bible are deeply misogynistic because of the people translating them, especially the king james version. i understand and recognize that, which unfortunately a lot of people in my religion don’t. there are also so many badass women in the bible who get completely ignored which is super annoying! these woman saved their people and they get skipped over!

any time i start to find comfort in catholicism again i remind myself of the ways it’s been used to reinforce the subjugation of women and it snaps me out of it LOL

like the people that sit there and tell me i should be more modest, to let men provide and run things etc, i so badly want to tell them to wake tf up. you’re only dressed modest because you’ve been brainwashed to think that your body is a distraction for men WHICH IS WRONG

the modesty talk honest to god gives me the heebie jeebies with the way i’ve seen ADULT MEN call literal children immodest for showing their hair or legs (if they’re wearing shorts or a swimsuit)… EUGH it just reeks of pedophilic rape culture to me ☹️

most religion overall directly stems from misogyny and sexism. also, god is very much derogatory which is why it doesn’t make sense to follow them.

jael killed an enemy general when he slept in her tent for the night. judith beheaded the general of the army that was surrounding her city. the point of these stories is to not underestimate women and then people in my religion go and underestimate us anyway.

yeah like when god burned down an entire city over “wickedness” even though not everyone there behaved the same as everyone else. people shouldn’t have to suffer because of someone else’s actions that have nothing to do with them.

The original languages are incredible misogynistic as well. Because it was written by people to harm others and gain control. 93-103 named women, compared to almost 2000 men.

everyone is entitled to believe what they want but what irritates me is that they don’t understand or refuse to understand the criticisms. i really wish more people on this app would take an ethics and philosophy class because it really shows how messed up religion actually is, yet people are brainwashed to think it’s the best thing in the world when it objectively isn’t. of course everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and practice of religion is a constitutional right.

and that sucks. i think the bible should be taken for it’s morals, like “love others” and not literally. growing up, the stories of the badass women were literally all i had (all the tv shows i was allowed to watch didn’t have main character women) as so i think about them a lot.

this. a lot of man made religion was created to control women and keep men in power. the idea that men should be leaders is what has royally fucked up this country in terms of how it’s run and how women are treated as a greater majority.

I mean Indian culture is supportive of the patriarchal imposition on women. Hinduism is not. I won’t argue because of what I’ve learned in my religion. I’m not aware of the intricacies of Christianity and am not commenting on it. Or any other religion for that matter. If this is pissing you off, that isn’t my intention. But, I’m just trying to put my truth out there.

Also, some Indian culture, not all. We have a lot of notable people who have worked for women and supported their progress in society. Some def hold back women into boxes to serve men at their pleasure.
