I love white women as much as the next person, but as a POC sometimes it’s just disheartening to see blonde, white women, getting praise for their beauty simply because they’re blonde and white

And I’m not blaming these women for this- it’s just the whole beauty standard of America and it’s just kinda frustrating sometimes

I love having white women as friends instead of avoiding them like some people do. I just be scared bc sometimes they can be so nice but their family is racist so it’s just a smack in the face when meeting them. Or sometimes I’ll get a white friend that tries to “act black” or like a “sister” when I don’t even act that way so it throws everything off just for them to lowkey be racist too 😭. It’s insane tbh

This is extremely valid. As a white woman, I am honestly so taken aback by all women’s beauty, and I don’t understand why in the state of the world a white woman is the beauty standard.

yeah fr - it’s just so like interesting bc one time this was mentioned within my inner circle, someone who has so happened to overhear what we were saying said, “oh yeah but then when we start to like yall it’s a fetish.” i was like bro😭

also true if they’re thin. too many skinny folks believe that they’re above everyone else and cannot stand to see their curvy friends get attention they believe they deserve.

Beauty standards in American are so fucked anymore. Being blonde, white and skinny, with a decent face is lowkey just the “standard” that I’ve heard so many men describe and my ex roommate was that and when she gained HEALTHY weight on her body, she was worried about her desirability from men.

it’s like white colorism, and as a white woman it frustrates me too cause most women don’t look best with light blond hair but because of the beauty standard they’ll bleach their hair and it’ll actually take away from their beauty, but so many people act like blonde is always better

I am a redhead, so I am still afforded white privilege and my experience pales in comparison to the systemic abuse/devaluation of WOC. But I just want to say that I am disillusioned by beauty standards also. I was always told to dye/straighten my curly hair as a kid. It is largely due to the wisdom of black women, that I was able to learn to care for my hair and learn to love my features. WOC literally (& thanklessly) shape our culture/innovations in the beauty space more than anyone else.💖

Growing up that was the hardest part for me bc I grew up in a suburban place we moved here right when I was born this place is filled with white people who have the prettiest long hair and fair skin yet I was fake with curly hair and brown eyes and I wasn’t built like them either I still am dealing with reviving my curls from all the straightening I did when I was in middle school trying to fit in it’s so depressing to me

Um I see plenty of blonde, white women get hate because people think they aren’t pretty? I didn’t think it has anything to do with race, it kinda sounds like your saying you think they aren’t pretty tbh

I was literally just reading a post about Jodie Comer- and I LOVE HER sm, she’s gorgeous!- but she’s also.. another blonde white woman, it’s just so. Idk. Interesting ig. And like every other post I see from influencers are blonde, white women (fake or real blonde!)

It’s just interesting what we’re valuing in our beauty culture, and seeing how much we’re shifting BACK into that “Americana” kind of look, of what is valued in our society

I’m not doubting that, she’s an incredible actress. So are Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, Sydney Sweeney, and other artists/actresses/etc like them. But the amount of posts I see praising them for their beauty, compared to a WOC, it’s just interesting. WOC do get praise, but not in the same way that these particular people do. Their beauty is not central to their fame, in the way that these particular people are, if that makes sense. WOC beauty isn’t praised as often in the same way

But back to what you were saying, I feel the most insecure when I’m surrounded by white peoples who are always the preference. Even for black men- and that’s a whole other level of insecure when the black men start talking down on me just for being a black woman

I’m one of those people who avoid white people. Like yeah some are cool but I wouldn’t interact with them as deeply I would a poc girl friend. I don’t know I just see them but don’t hear them. But I don’t agree sometimes a white friend is nice lmaoo

I get that. I literally have no black friends. My college is very diverse but I haven’t made a single friend that is black. It’s like they already all knew each other so I didn’t fit in. And then there’s the fact that I act differently than the way some of them do so it doesn’t work. It’s definitely hard not having someone who understands even the smallest things. Few white friends I’ve made don’t be knowing wth I’m talking about 😂. Kind of a lonely/misunderstood feeling

Yeah to be honest I think it’s more of a standard in theory than in practice but def depends greatly on location throughout the US

Not once did she say they aren’t pretty. And it doesn’t seem like it was implied either. Well, not to me anyway. More likely than not, blonde white women are usually preferred. It’s not the case 100% of the time but usually it is. There’s nothing wrong with them being pretty. She’s probably just upset that she won’t be looked at the same as they are bc that’s how it has been for the longest. Not saying that’s how it is in every single corner of the world. But in general, that’s how it is

Imo she is talking about the women that get put on a pedestal when it comes to conversations about beauty. Despite the fact that there is basically nothing unique about them. Look at celebrity red carpets. Virtually every white actress dyes her hair blonde at some point or lightens it in some way, because it’s seen as the ideal color. Meanwhile, the majority of WOC are overlooked and rarely given their flowers. Especially those who don’t adopt Eurocentric beauty standards.
