I love having white women as friends instead of avoiding them like some people do. I just be scared bc sometimes they can be so nice but their family is racist so it’s just a smack in the face when meeting them. Or sometimes I’ll get a white friend that tries to “act black” or like a “sister” when I don’t even act that way so it throws everything off just for them to lowkey be racist too 😭. It’s insane tbh
Beauty standards in American are so fucked anymore. Being blonde, white and skinny, with a decent face is lowkey just the “standard” that I’ve heard so many men describe and my ex roommate was that and when she gained HEALTHY weight on her body, she was worried about her desirability from men.
I am a redhead, so I am still afforded white privilege and my experience pales in comparison to the systemic abuse/devaluation of WOC. But I just want to say that I am disillusioned by beauty standards also. I was always told to dye/straighten my curly hair as a kid. It is largely due to the wisdom of black women, that I was able to learn to care for my hair and learn to love my features. WOC literally (& thanklessly) shape our culture/innovations in the beauty space more than anyone else.💖
Growing up that was the hardest part for me bc I grew up in a suburban place we moved here right when I was born this place is filled with white people who have the prettiest long hair and fair skin yet I was fake with curly hair and brown eyes and I wasn’t built like them either I still am dealing with reviving my curls from all the straightening I did when I was in middle school trying to fit in it’s so depressing to me
I’m not doubting that, she’s an incredible actress. So are Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, Sydney Sweeney, and other artists/actresses/etc like them. But the amount of posts I see praising them for their beauty, compared to a WOC, it’s just interesting. WOC do get praise, but not in the same way that these particular people do. Their beauty is not central to their fame, in the way that these particular people are, if that makes sense. WOC beauty isn’t praised as often in the same way
I get that. I literally have no black friends. My college is very diverse but I haven’t made a single friend that is black. It’s like they already all knew each other so I didn’t fit in. And then there’s the fact that I act differently than the way some of them do so it doesn’t work. It’s definitely hard not having someone who understands even the smallest things. Few white friends I’ve made don’t be knowing wth I’m talking about 😂. Kind of a lonely/misunderstood feeling
Not once did she say they aren’t pretty. And it doesn’t seem like it was implied either. Well, not to me anyway. More likely than not, blonde white women are usually preferred. It’s not the case 100% of the time but usually it is. There’s nothing wrong with them being pretty. She’s probably just upset that she won’t be looked at the same as they are bc that’s how it has been for the longest. Not saying that’s how it is in every single corner of the world. But in general, that’s how it is
Imo she is talking about the women that get put on a pedestal when it comes to conversations about beauty. Despite the fact that there is basically nothing unique about them. Look at celebrity red carpets. Virtually every white actress dyes her hair blonde at some point or lightens it in some way, because it’s seen as the ideal color. Meanwhile, the majority of WOC are overlooked and rarely given their flowers. Especially those who don’t adopt Eurocentric beauty standards.
